Might be worth trying a few companies in the Bristol/Midlands area who will load you into Cornwall for the weekend.
Admitedlly not so much nowadays but 2 or 3 years ago,lay-bys and ind. estates had quite a few lorries parked in them at weekends that were based in other parts of the country but had Cornish drivers that were loaded for Cornwall for the weekend.
Obviously this means you’re away all week but as mentioned,if you try Baileys,Westfields etc. you’d be doing that anyway to earn any sort of decent money.
It’s all agency stuff now, and most companies seem to use ANY agency!! There is work but not very well paid and a lot of hanging by the phone waiting to hear. Oh Yes, of course, ALL the agencies lie about how wonderful their contacts are & the work you’ll get. “It’ll be an easy one… nice modern vehicles…think it’s an easy trunk run…etc” Later that day you’re struggling to unload a very long rigid in Soho or waiting for a return load from Scotland doing groupage!!!
