There are bird food tubs with good lids, and a handle, that are handy.
For the full VIP experience, line with one of those compost bags for food waste caddies, and throw in a handful of cat litter. The whole lot can be knotted up and chucked.

Reading through this thread, it’s no wonder there are so few women in the industry. In fact I’m quite surprised there are as many as there are

What’s different about them?

Nothing different per se, but I know I’ve never had to give my safety a second thought whilst walking across a MSA car park, giving registration details or when ■■■■■■■ in a hedge.
Then there’s the lack of facilities, and even more so the lack of decent facilities. I’ve seen plenty of toilets reminiscent of the one from Trainspotting and thought to myself ‘you know what, that back tyre did kinda look like it needed a wash after all’, an option that might not be so practical, or indeed safe, for women.
Also, I can’t imagine this being a job that gets easier during pregnancy.
I really hope that none of what I’ve said comes across as patronising to the women on here, sometimes it’s easy to overlook or even be ignorant of issues faced by others until they’re pointed out

I’m not going to pooh-pooh that idea (Sorry!)

I don’t feel patronised and you bring up an important point. Speaking for myself and the women in my life, women generally live with a constant low-level fear and awareness of our safety and a consciousness of how/whether we should adapt our behaviour to keep safe. It’s a sixth sense which is heightened when alone/outside/in the dark etc. So it’s not the personal safety element that is responsible for so few women in the industry, because we have that issue everywhere. Of more concern to me as a newbie are the dangers of the road which are faced by all LGV drivers.
I don’t think it’s the facilities or lack thereof either. Of course, we are all different with different tolerances but women’s lived experience (periods, smear tests, childbirth, miscarriage etc etc) as Lucy alludes to, means regular loss of dignity. I don’t think blokes should be more accepting of poor facilities than women just because they can pee standing up.
It’s not because women are not wanted either.
As an outsider looking in, I think the reason there are so few women in the industry is simply because it is not offered to them and seems closed off to them. Women are “ignorant of it as an option because it hasn’t been pointed out”. There is lots that can be done to encourage/incentivise women to join the industry but I’ll leave that for a different thread.
Hahaha
How do women pee
Great stuff guys
You just made me spit out my tea
I need to know how this lass got on - where is the OP with an update?
Have spoke to her she seems.decent enough used be a skip driver…bit has decided wants a change something more long distance work
As for nights out she’s had one this week not sure where but from what can make.out she coped ok.
I only asked the question really as never occurred to me how a woman would cope with facilities showers etc untill she started. Guess is guys just take it for granted really. Was interesting to hear views on here from the opposite ■■■ .
Good news then.
Showers are about a million times less of an issue than when I started, as nearly all places with them have either unisex cubicles or male and female facilities these days. In the old days (and on the odd occasion when caught out more recently) I just used to ask a passing bloke to see if there was one free in the Gents then go straight on through, apologising to all the startled faces at the urinals and staring pointedly at the ceiling as I scuttled past!
When I started at my last place the only women’s loo was being used as a storage room by the fleet engineer, so I just used to shout “INCOMING” and use the gents, rather than waste time crossing the dock to the offices. He was one of the real old school who didn’t think women should be allowed in haulage yards, so even when the office moved off the dock and he was forced to let me have the key to the door clearly marked “Ladies,” he still made a point of stacking boxes on the bog seat and keeping gloves in the sink!
It was there that I was pregnant with my eldest, so you can imagine what he thought of that. The older drivers and fitters used to wind him up by waiting for me to come through the yard, then running out with the kettle and a roller towel refill shouting “Just hang on there pet, I’ve got the hot water ready!!!”
Gotta laugh, eh? I could bore you for hours with this stuff…
We should have our own forum for silly stories
I had passed my C+E about a month when I had a reverse from bright sunlight under an exhibition building. I couldn’t see a blinking thing. One of the other drivers kindly watched me in and then the foreman mentioned that they shouldn’t allow women to drive lorries if they couldn’t do the job.
I seriously thought he was going to get lynched by 2 of the other guys there. Luckily free food was mentioned and we all shuffled off to the food car
Those large horse supplement containers are great too and the handles are strong. I hadn’t thought about cat litter
