Any pics from now and the past? i must of had my pic taken a 101 times when i was on there a couple of years back so i was wondering if any spotter had any to put up on here…prob not.

Anorak fact, Widdowsons had some R series back in 2003 disguised as 4 series on trial… No idea why i know this but i read it somewhere!!!
Yeah, use to test things out for scania, they had a class 2 motor that they use to just send a driver for a day out driving wherever he liked just to do some miles on it for them.
I used to deliver to ACC (CO-OP) up at braunstone industrial estate (leicester area) and i always used to drive past a big widdowsons depot.

Widdo’s did have a Bronze R series 470 on demo running along side a 4 series 164 480 with a 4 position retarder on it about 03/04 ish . The R series was a much better cab but the 164 480 wazzed all over it on performance. We’d already had about 22 of the 4 series 124 470s a year earlier . Apparrantly there was a big to do with our MD and scania about the fuel consumption of the 470s 4 series so scania eventually did a 1 for 1 swap on the 4 series for the equivelent R series 470s, which was great for us lads who’d already got them, meant we had 2 new topliners in 2 years…Although the R series was a better cab design the 4 series opticruise was better…
Yeah I’d heard that they weren’t happy with the mpg on them. It’d be nice to have had the v8!

We all wanted the V8 164 480s but suppose when your buying about 80 of em, costs come into it…
