If the A444 and A5 are closed and you need to get to Atherstone from the north in a 44 tonner which way would you go? Can you get down through Snarestone, Twycross and Sheepy Magma? Google streetview looks okay but the imagery is from the 2012 and we all know how they like to stick 7.5t weight limits on every road that isn’t a motorway these days. Any locals?
Also does anyone know which nights for the next 2 weeks the A444 junction southbound exit is closed? It was closed Monday night but open last night.
I also saw a sign just after J11 mentioning something about M42 closures in the coming weeks too, but it was impossible to read the dates and times in the pitch black at 56mph.
A444 is fine to use, no height, or weight restrictions.

I’m not asking about the A444 for weight limits. Did you read my post?

SLOW DOWN THEN !!
Are you mad■■? Parcel trunks man! Slowing down is not an option!
I’d come off at Ashby (511 I think) then down through Ibstock to Hinckley/A5 and avoid it all using better roads.
The A444…
Is fine from J11 of the M42. Don’t come off at the Measham junction to go via Snarestone because Measham itself has a weight limit.
You could try the Highways Agency website for closure details but, don’t get your hopes up for any really accurate info.
Faced with the same situation, I’d consider M1, M69, A5 to Atherstone as an easier way than round the houses diversions.

If you’re going to go that way to Atherstone, why not just stay on the M1 M69 A5 and burn twice as much fuel instead? Maybe take some night out gear too as you’ll probably need it with all the all the extra hours going that way… I guess you don’t pay for the fuel for the truck.

Yep seen Measham has weight limit. It’s Snarestone, Twycross, Sheepey Magma I want to check on. HA website is predictably useless. No mention of the closures on there and took about 5 mins for the pages to even load.
Can’t believe everyone saying to stay on the motorways and go miles out of the way. Does no-one go cross-country anymore? Seems everyone frightened of any road that is not a dual carriageway or motorway, which perhaps explains why all diversion route convoys never get above 30 mph.
I’ll figure it out myself.
With an attitude…
Like that, I sincerely hope you get stuck down a farm track somewhere and end up as a local news item.

Just offering an alternative coming down the M42 as it was mentioned in the title.
Another one is down A38, off at Alrewas for A513 to Tamworth.

Two rail bridges on that route, don’t know the height of them though? That was the route we usually used from Ashbourne to the A5 at Fazeley if the A444 was closed.
Pete.

Yeah yeah think one is 13ft 3in and the other is a bit higher. I clear them hence why I don’t think of them if you get me.
There’s some gumph concerning the closure of Holy lane on our notice board.
Download the report near the bottom of this page, has all the night closures for the week

That’s useful thanks. Just realised I should have wrote J12 in the total not J11 which is the A444. I see on that list it says it’s closed at J11 tonight so looks like a J12 diversion is on the cards.
