:bulb: Keep further away on the approach :bulb: - have a read in my tips about the ‘PIVOT POINT’

check your left mirror before you turn - as you turn - and again when you have turned and steer according to your position.

It’s something that will eventually just “click” with practice.

As Rog says, try to leave a lot of room on your approach as it’s easier that way than trying to correct things during the turn when you see the rear wheels heading for the kerb.

At places like the left kink as you enter a roundabout try to hug the white line on your side. On the sharper ones you’ll have to eat into a bit of the next lane. It’s tricky sometimes and you’ll notice many roundabouts have “bruised” kerbs from where people constantly run over them.

Your mirrors tell you when to start steering.

if its tight move to the right…

I am exactly the opposite… first job after passing my test and was travelling from humberside airport to mablethorpe on lincolnshires lovely A roads that take in plenty of villages and hedged right angled bends, upset lots of oncoming traffic using too much road doh! everytime I checked my left mirror on a left hander I was miles out with the trailer!!! Still you gotta learn.

Also I think that seeing that foreigner on the single track road with the trailer right up in the air on police camera action scared the **** outa me! So not looking forward to single tracks with hedges never mind kerbs!!!

i failed my test twice both times on left hands turns. Eventually an old hand told me “if in doubt take the entire road up, you wont hit the kerb and so long as nobody has to slow down or change direction you won’t fail for doing it” and it worked

Ah, be careful here.
If you leave too wide a gap betweeen your trailer and the kerb that could also end up in a fail situation as the examiner may see it as leaving a wide enough gap to tempt a car to try and get up your inside so creating a danger.
Keep it just right about two feet from the kerb all the way round if possible and if space allows.
Your mirrors are your life savers here.
NEVER take your eye off your back wheels when cornering. Notice I said EYE and not EYES as you need the other one to look ahead - believe me you can do it. We all do it with practice.

I’m glad I’m not the only one!

3rd attempt at my ‘C’ on Thursday the 28th - hopefully with no brushed kerbs this time…

if i need to straddle 2 lanes i’ll do it, dont even worry about the cars behind, just make sure you do it in such a manner that they cant come up either side of you.

Thats why I think me driving buses helps - they are about the same length as a rigid!!!
Im still thinking if its worth redoing given the current economic situation…

Take a position out to the right.
delay steering as long as possibletry to get your driving wheels out to the white line of the junction then turn I know that its not always possible we just have to do our best. good luck hope this helps you.

I have passed now and cracked this problem, hope these answers help other newbies
