I admit i know nothing about the licence and qualifications required for carrying petrol etc but from what i have read a pdp card needs a refresher course every year. where these posponed due to covid?
I’m beginning to sound like a broken record - PDP is NOT required for tanker work UNLESS you go into the refinery, which most guys don’t. Some companies have one guy who hangs around near the refinery and they just do trailer swaps.
You need ADR with Tanks: depends where you are how much it will cost: about £460 if you’re near Tyneside, more like £700-750 if you’re ‘darn sarf’.
If you plan on doing that, start learning your 9 hazard classes (including sub-classes) now, it’s at least 20% of what you need to cover.
EDIT: your ADR lasts five years but can be renewed in the 4th year

i already have adr for packages would just need the tanks. what about the job specific training like how to hook up thelines to the tanks and the spark arresters etc or is that covered in the tanks part of the adr
I did an ADR course 18 odd years ago, fully funded at no cost to myself. 5 days in a classroom with a “test” at the end. Bit of a joke as the trainer was telling us the answers we got wrong and every body passed. Sounds familiar? DCPC
Sorry does not address you original post I know.

I also did mine a few times in fact the very first one was attendance only (many years ago) with no test but after that always a proper test and not like the DCPC test unless that has changed but I somehow doubt that.

think that was clamped down on cause too many passes.
That was how it was. I might book an ADR to see if I could pass now. I’m betting if I turned up blind drunk I would get the job on ethanol.
when i did my packages course last year was 4 days "study"tests on the 5th day. we were told no confering as a representative of the examining body could do a spot check. however if we had a problem with “understanding a question” we could put our hand up and ask for help. all in the class but 2 passed first time. the other 2 resat thier exams with the instructors sat next to them making sure they understood the questions
It was around Spring/Summer last year when a load of tank drivers were being forced out of a job because no one was buying petrol/diesel.
I was at Tesco at the time and a lot of the tanker guys were coming over here in their units because they had no work.
From what I have heard now they are receiving calls asking if they want their job back and they are just telling their former boss to jog on.
I wouldnt do tankers unless you can get decent money.
Jeeze, the ADR (TDG) over here is literall A few hours in front of a computer, a multiple choice quiz and that’s it, now I can haul anything in anything! Fuel, LPG, NH3, etc. . .
I was gonna do my ADR over there before I left but at the time, it was a challenge to even get your foot into the dangerous goods game unless you have experience or knew someone who could vouch for you. I’m guessing that’s not the case anymore
To be fair, pertaining to the “fuel shortage” that’s not a fuel shortage, half the problem is the news and MPs hyping up the issue, as soon as someone says fuel shortage or petrol stations are running out then the country goes nuts!
Perhaps the govt will take note of how essential HGV drivers are and maybe do something about it, CPC, driver enforcement, lack of parking etc and maybe even pressure companies to give drivers better treatment etc. (It’s a long shot, I know)
Are there any tanker drivers from Hoyer Hamble on here who would like to comment on the proposed strike ballot ?

More like where they see the future of their jobs in the lead up to the phasing out of fossil fuelled cars.Which according to the UN can only accelerate unless Bozo does a screeching U turn on the Kyoto and Paris deals.
