Any one ever seen this

ive seen a londis day cabbed artic in the east of england twice this week with one of those L plates in a green circle like a lot of foreigners have. Im led to believe its something to do with emmisions and running round europe. but what would it be doing on the front of a day cab supermarket wagon?

Delusions of Grandeur

I moved a day cabbed Stralis unit in a customers yard once and jammed in the cab somewhere were the relevant stickers to stick on the front if needed. Presumably they were supplied with the unit.

Moving it acrosss the yard was far enough for me, let enough driving the hateful thing in Europe

Unless it does regular runs to Austria the sticker will be doing nothing on the front of the cab.

‘L’ stands for ‘Lärmschutz’ and signifies a low-noise vehicle which means it can run at night in Austria.

‘S’ is for a low emissions vehicle.

‘U’ means low emissions and low-noise vehicle.

They are all for Austria.

Interesting, always wondered what they were for… So while on the subject what are the numbers that you see on them for, after the letter on another plate?

I used to drive a Mercedes 1820 flatbed that had a G plate on the front. When at Chep Avonmouth one day someone pointed out that it would enable me to drive through Austria at night. I pointed out that I never drove through Austria by day!!!

The ‘G’ stands for Geräuscharm Fahrzeug and is actually the German version of the Austrian ‘L’.

Not sure what numbers you mean, can’t say as I have noticed them, unless they are the EURO class of the vehicle.

Sourced a picture of what i mean.

That’ll be the EURO emissions class I think.

I never drove through Germany by day either!
I think it just came already on the vehicle.

When I got a just out the wrapper Stralis there was a pack of these stickers. I wish I had kept them now… some glory boy driving god would probably have paid good money for them to stick on his UK only motor to look cool, along with his useless TIR plate on the back.

Why do you have a TIR plate on the back? “Don’t you know you need a TIR plate on to drive into Wales, sonny boy?”
