As in title really, was collecting my backhaul from Daniels in peterboro’ last night when a young looking driver backed onto a bay next to me, looked like it could well have been one of his first few reverses - fair play to the guy though, tiz a bit tight round there.
If it was you, sorry I couldn’t help; I’ve only been doing it for a couple of months and still at the stage where I don’t really know how I do it!
Only one point I can offer is to have a bit more confidence; when your trailer was millimetres from my mirror, if you’d carried on back you’d have pushed it away from the mirror and (I think) set yourself up nicely. But, no harm in taking a shunt like you did either…
I was but not me, I had to back in a tight gate way on a industrial park, the sort of places people park cars in the way. I was told and it works, Calm down, don’t mater about any one else just take your time nice and steady and you will get it in the end. Also don’t give up lots of people could help you but you have to work out how to do it your self. I also find that watching how other people line up and back up can help.
End of the day we have all been in the same boat that’s why you will find people always willing to help out some how. When I started to drive to people where kind enough just to watch me and tell me how to do it. You will probably be telling every one how you backed up in one go soon and it feels just like when you were told that you have passed (well almost) , but it is not the driving test if you need to go forward just to correct more than 2 times they are not going to take your licence away for that.

Good advice and guess what Adam we HAVE ALL been there including your instructor so never worry about who you hold up 10 mins extra time reversing is better than two weeks down time getting it repaired.
Good luck to all you new guys take your time it works.
