Any of the HATOs from here?

My bus route goes past the brook street r/a. M25/A12 junction.
I always see HATO’s parked up in the petrol station.
All to save fuel, so i’m told.

I parked up by one today on Northampton services and for the 50 mins I was there they sat there on tick over, why? God knows how long they were there before I arrived

Not sure the point of a 4x4 on a motorway? What about a double cab pick up rather than a traditional (and not very reliable Land Rover) 4x4? Plenty of load space, better reliability etc etc …

Seen them patrolling along the a55 recently along the stretch from Bangor to colwyn bay, sure iv seen them in a crew cab pick up aswell

These are the vehicle of choice for the French autoroute patrol, if they find a pallet or a tyre on the motorway, they stop and pick it up, they don’t shut the motorway for 6 hours.

.
Chauffer - You have your big truck as your place of office for work for the day, That can carry large loads for long distances.
.
HATO - They have 4x4s as their place of office for work for the day. Those 4x4s, beit L/R - Jap, whatever, can tow/clear broken down cars/vans/lgv`s and crashed cars/vans from the carriageway to hard shoulder to clear the road so you can continue your journey safely -
.
You have 6 cyl/v6/v8 etc and night heaters to keep warm and air-con to keep cool,
They have 4 cylinder heaters and air-con.

2 different job roles , both have a job to do.

Does it matter who has / does what ■■

Crack on with your own job and all will be fine , let the rest worry about themselves

You dont hear them complaining you have a 11 ltr 430bhp ovlov/scanyaar :unamused: whatever, that only does anything from 5.5 to 12 miles per gallon do you ■■
Glass houses an all that :unamused:

Think of the enviroment - take deeper breath`s :grimacing:

They’ll be Traffic wales traffic officer service" commonly known as “Tw@ts” or “Tw@tos” :grimacing:

Different country, different govt, different etc

Its has been banded about for years as to why HATO’s have 4x4’s. A Vito was indeed trialed recently, I’m sure partly to put the nay sayers negativity to rest when they say “why don’t they have vans”. They tried, it didn’t work. It couldn’t pull anything such as a car with 2 wheels missing wedged under the barrier let a lone anything bigger.

Not sure if you know but all TOV’s have a towing widget allowing HATO’s to tow a 44 ton loaded LGV out of live lane to clear the road? Imagine a loaded brick lorry with a screwed engine stopped in lane 3 of 4 meaning a lane 1 and 2 or a lane 3 and 4 closure causing hours of congestion when it can now be cleared “WITH A GREAT BIG 4 X 4”? The finance deals on the 4 x 4’s has been screwed down and down and down to save you taxpayers money, we park up off network to save you money, you complain, just give em a break.

So how does the licensing work when towing a 44t lorry? Surely not all of you have a +E entitlement.
I’m also surprised that in today’s world of litigation they still allow you to tow vehicles off the carriageway.
After the blaze of glory launch it seems things have continued to spiral downwards ever since.

All of us at my out station have b +e and am pretty that is repeated around the country, we only do the pulling on heavies you do the truck end of things.
