Any fair agencies in/near Surrey?

Does anyone know of any “fair”, “friendly” and “nice to work with” driver agencies out there in or near to the Surrey area■■?

I did some work for the agency Contract Options and noticed that after initially paying me for typical days of 13 plus or so hours, the pay for 3 of those hours would then be deducted from the following weeks pay slip, and would simply read “deductions £30” without explanation, if it was £10 per hr.
When I asked them about it, they said that the haulier in question “never” paid any more than 10 hours for any shift, regardless of “actual” hours worked in the day.
Taking into account your vehicle checks, other work; loading and unloading, waiting around in yards etc. time not spent driving, how often is anyone lucky enough to finish their working day within 10 hours…?

When you sign up for this agency, they phone you asking your availability on a particular day and tell you the hourly rate for that particular job. You then receive a text with the address and start time, although the hourly rate of pay is usually spoken over the phone and not always confirmed on the text in writing, which can also lead to confusion on their part.

I agreed to working for an hourly rate for each job, but I did not agree that once you have worked over 10 hours for any company, you would not be paid anything extra.
As far as I understood, you should work your hours and be paid your hours.

I explained this to the agency via email and telephone, and said that I couldn’t take on any further work until it was sorted out and I had received pay for all of the missing hours worked with an explanation. Consequently they have not been in touch since.

Am I missing something here? Has this sort of thing happened to any other drivers recently? Is this typical?

I enjoy my truck driving, but having already spent hundreds out of my own pocket on CPC training to keep my licence current, I’m starting to feel very disillusioned and let down by this impersonal approach and lack of professionalism and wonder whether the enormous expense on an individual is worthwhile for this kind of treatment.

I would love to work with an agency who actually give a monkeys, if there is any such thing.

Any help from fellow drivers would be gratefully received, especially those currently working for agencies.

Sorry to disappoint but the words “fair, friendly and nice to work with” do not belong in the same month as the word agencies.

I have always found that inviting myself into the office for a chat about these kind of situations sees the problem resolved…

And the small claims court

“put it in writing” normally sorts the tossers out

Something wrong here mate I have worked on the agencys in surrey for the last 12 or so years (not contract options ) and I know a lot of the drivers on the same contracts as me are on for contract options I’ve never heard of anything like this and belive me everyone would be talking about low behaviour like that you need to get at them face to face and find out if its just you they,re taking the ■■■■ out of , if you want the number of another agency who won,t ■■■■ you around pm me but i would say now,s not the time to change agencies (just after christmas

On the flip side I’ve worked for an agency that paid me the full 8 hours after the client decided there was no work for me after turning up at 7am… then got me another job allocated for that day - double bubble happy days…

But yes - certain agencies can be a ■■■■■■’ nightmare…

This x 10000 ^^^^^^^^

They are effectively cheating you out of money.

As has been advised, i’d invite myself in and make it clear that, unless they pay and pay now, I’ll be straight off to the small claims court.

If working for an agency, always know exactly what they owe, and never let them pay less. I was once duped out of £1.50 and I told them if they didn’t pay I’d take them to court… They didn’t believe me until they got a letter from my solicitor (I have a friend that is a solicitor)

Not only did they pay, they never tried it on again either…

But did you accept any work from them again?

After a lot of chasing I too threatened legal action with a solicitor but they ignored that. I have also just received an ambiguous text (not even sure if it’s meant for me as they don’t address me by my name), cheekily asking me to travel the 10 or so miles to their offices and collect my P45 asap! I’ve never given them reason to take this approach with me as I’ve always been reliable. I just wanted to be paid what I know I was owed. I made sure everything was written down re my hours.
