jonny ,7 years ago i left trucking and went into car sales i am now back on the road trust me its not a good life, for a start basic salerys are around 10,000 a year every thing else is based on what you sell and these days believe me theres little profit on new car sales average per unit if your lucky is aroung 60 pound to the sales person you earn more on insurence products like gap and payment protection its very target orientated to be honest 4 years in that game was nearly the ruin of me , hence i mm not involved any more i supose if your young without commitments its possible to survive on the money but if like me you need to pay a morgage ect give it a miss and dont get me started on company car tax on the demo you get which they take off you as and when they need it for a customer …Basic salary is £18,000 at this place. I’m there to earn a wage not get the company car. If they want to take it off me for a customer so be it. Will see how it goes though, after all no use running before I’ve learnt to walk
Cheers

Jonny
Jonny I don’t know your personal circumstances wether you have a big mortgage or large family but the reason i got out off it was I was almost 19 and needed a regular steady income to get on the property ladder, I earned £30 a day £40 for every sale £25 for every warranty sold and was paid in vouchers for finance deals the problem was I worked a 7 day week followed by a 6 me and the other salesman had alternate Sundays off I spent £70 a week on petrol and if I never sold anything in a week I worked 9-6 7days a week for £140! My neighbours a sales man and he tells me to get back into it as he’s on £900 a week, he talks out his arse basically that’s the most he’s ever made in a week but now tells people that’s his weekly wage I earnt £700 one week and at 18 that’s a bloody good wage problem is for the 2 weeks after that I earnt sod all hence perusing a career in driving hourly pay and regular 50+ hour weeks it’s nice to wear a suite to work and be clean i miss it cause i love people I love a yarn and am sociable being on my own all day drives me mad every time I got a sell it gave me a right buzz i loved it but be cautious it really isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and is a ruthless industry it’s two faced full off brown noses and back stabbers your mate one minute then telling the boss to get rid cause your ■■■■ so they have more punters to themselves, not putting a downer on it for you but I gave you some tactics I used for sellin and thought maybe I’d chip in with a bit off what to expect try it though and good luck.
It’s a far more fair system in the UK, in the USA car dealers do not pay you any wage, it’s all commision based, I got what they call a float of $290.00 per week, that was to suport your survival, if you had a week without a sale you then owed the comany $290.00, two weeks and you owed the company$580.00 and it went up like that so if you had a bad spell you were in deep debt. After 6 months of making money, then getting rid of the float I would get a bad spell again. We got $50.00 for every brand new car and a percentage of the profit on used, we always got good commision on used because the profit margin was high.
I went 5 weeks with just a couple of new cars and that kept the debt going, it reached just over $2,000.00 then one Satrurday I had a good run and made enough to clear the float, then quit on the spot.
Well that couldn’t have gone any worse The interview before me lasted 25 minutes i was only in there for 10-15 minutes so I think we gather I’ll have not got a job there
So the bets are up, I’m betting against the odds!
Cheers
Jonny
