are they employing English or the eastern European

Astran dont run trucks its all owner drivers both brits and europeans most loads are from mainland europe out to doha.
I wouldnt swear on it but i dont think there is enough work going that way to keep you permantly busy and a lot of the guys either do the trip and sell the truck down there or fit in trips between other work as and when they come up.
It might be worth calling them you never now if a subbie has a spare truck etc but i wouldnt hold your breath.

and the touring rarely go to russia,

plus youd be lucky to get a job

Not often but it does still happen, my ex-Boss Richard just sent me a text, he is on the Russian side of the Latvian/Russian border as we speak, en route to the Moscow Motor Show.

Nope, Balkans Express from Walsall.

well, i know of a certain 55 ish, black, uk trucks, that have moscow as their next stop, after they’ve finished in helsinki.

i was in russia last year for them to.
harry is right, still get some uk firms, doing specialised stuff going that way.
balkans isn’t un-common anymore either.

Chechnya■■? :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Is that back on the map now?? I thought that place was still well off limits??

According the Foriegn and Commonwealth Office the whole area is a bit of a no go area…

Thats what we thought but what we were asked to quote on.

:open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:…and are you seriously going to go??

Stuff that!! :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Im all for exploring new destinations and routes etc but to tempt fate like that is abit daft!! Would the border posts even let you in??

They still have a massive mujahadeen army there and are still fighting for an independent Muslim state, you ben, will be fair game and a “legitimate” target for them. Should you get caught and fall into their hands then the Government will wash their hands of you cos you ignored their advise!!

Remember that guy from a telecom company who went over there to help build up the infrastructre, snatched of the street then beheaded!!!

What ever you quote for the job, it wouldnt be enough for me!!!

Have to agree, Chechnya has always been on the no-go list, I went to Georgia once and I went via Greece and Bulgaria and across the Black Sea to avoid it, no ifs no buts if you go to Chechnya in an English-registered truck you will be killed.

the devil went to georgia, but i think it was a big fiddle…

well i certainly wouldn’t chance it, no matter what the job was worth.

was in st petersburg last year, and although ok, you always thought you needed to be on your guard. (2 of the crew were turned over.)
the same in the baltics,we were in riga for a week, drink in the right bar, at the wrong time, and you can meet the odd nasty, “family” type bloke there, who if your unlucky, just for being british, will happily threaten to “cut your throat” (1 of the crew, beaten, and wallet stolen.)

so i’m with harry and bullitt, think chechnya has got to be a def no go zone!
pastures new is one thing, getting murdered for the sake of being in a uk registered truck, for a seemingly well paying load, it just ain’t worth it.
