I am curious as to what the B+E will show (manual or auto) if you are a B or C manual driver doing AUTO C+E after 01/01/2014
You will get manual C+E but would like to know if the DSA are correct when they said to me that the B+E will also be manual

No, I’m def going the full manual route. I’d sooner learn how to use the gears properly while training than learn on an auto then get given a full manual on my first day out
We’re offering both so it’s customer choice. What is clear to me is that new drivers should be able to use a “proper” gearbox before going to work.
So, with us, you can learn and pass on auto then have a couple of hours on manual or just do it all on manual. I don’t think there’s a right and wrong with this.
It has similarities to the w+d discussion. Pass on w+d by all means (it’s a bit easier) but have a couple of hours on an artic before going to work.
Our new auto will be with us mid April and we’re taking bookings from early May.
Pete
So if you do your training in an auto you’ll only be able to drive an auto rig?

No - do LGV or PCV in auto and get manual if already got B (car) manual

Can’t see them giving a b+e manual as you won’t get a b+e manual if you sit the b+e test in an auto ,if they do give them a manual B+E then they will live upto the name of the DSA double standards agency

They said it will give B+E manual if pass B manual and C+E auto but that is the reason for this thread - to find out for certain
But they also said if you have a manual B and do b+e in an auto it will be restricted! its a bit of a joke that they can’t get things right.

EU law makes B manual upgrade C+E auto to C+E manual
UK law makes C+E manual upgrade B manual to B+E manual
UK law still stays the same regarding doing B manual then B+E auto = B+E auto
To make the law logical the UK Govt needs to change UK law
UK law refers to the laws surrounding DVLA because NI law is different on this matter - pass B manual then B+E auto in NI gives the driver both in manual
Dsa have said that a pass in c+e auto will give c1+e manual and b+e manual , dvla have different ideas they say the b+e will be auto only , so seems mad that a 3.5t van and trailer would have to be auto but if you had a 4t van and trailer it would be ok manual, if that is the case then there are going to be some very annoyed people that pass c+e in an auto , have a manual car licence! can drive c and c+e in manual yet won’t be able to tow their twin axle caravan unless they are using an automatic vehicle! the world has gone mad.

When I emailed DVLA on this issue they said to ask the DSA because the decision is up to them

Not sure how that’s going to work then as the DSA don’t issue the licence

As B+E was specifically not included in the new proposals then its unlikely that a b+e upgrade will be given unrestricted following a c+e auto pass given that the b+e can’t be given unrestricted if done in an auto, otherwise it will prove the system is a shambles.

According to the DSA passing B manual then CE auto will give BE manual - but am always a little sceptical which is why I did this thread
Just need a B manual with a CE auto to confirm it
B manual then B+E auto gets B+E auto
Any manual in any of the B C or D categories and passing a +E in any C or D category will get manual B+E
So if I do my c+e in a manual will I only be able to drive a manual? I’m confused
If you pass CE in manual you will be able to drive any truck whether manual, auto or semi auto.
If, by any chance, you only hold an auto car licence or an auto CAT C licence (highly unlikely) that would be upgraded to manual at the same time.
But, very soon, you can pass your C and or CE on auto and get manual entitlement provided you already hold a manual car licence.
Sorry it’s a bit garbled = it’s late!
Hope this helps, Pete
Only people that are likely to have cat C auto only are ex fire service .

And those who train in the future in autos with training schools
There are also those who do auto PCV
If the above have manual B then they will get those in manual
