Any advice for fridge work?

Posted on the other driver forum too but thought id ask here too. Fridge work is alot different to pallet network :smiley: Just looking for advice how to make your run easier for yourself as you go along. Only done a day so far just seems alot to take in at moment!

What sort of fridge work are you doing? Multi drop in city centres etc? Who you working for?

It will be for Greggs. So yeah multidrop around towns, industrials.

Fundamentally fridge work is a box with a cooling system. It is presumably loaded with palletised fright which is managed with forklifts and pump trucks either on a bay, or manually pump trucked from the back at each drop. Load security is easy, probably just a load bar at the back.

If you’re delivering chilled/frozen goods then you can hope that the majority of sites you’ll visit are going to be a reasonable size, as they are going to need refrigeration in the warehouse/depot. That means hopefully a reasonable amount of room to move about, although anywhere can get tight when it is busy or when they allocate too few bays for inbound goods.

If you’re reversing in tight spaces, remember to watch your nearside as well as where the trailer is going…

Op’s a rigid driver and will be doing shop deliveries for Greggs (no trailer involved ) :wink: , and he just said pallets not pallet ways

ValleysTrucker , when you leave depot press the defrost button if truck has been plugged on all night or left running

Just keep an eye on the temperature and chill out :slight_smile: all the greggs deliveries are on trays with knackered wheels so just take your time. The drops are timed to put the stock away as well but most of the time the staff have their own system and dont want you touching it, so its drop, sign the book and bugger off. Most of them will offer you a free cuppa but dont have too many. Enjoy it, its an easy job. Dont forget to write up your first day and let us know how it went :slight_smile:

So how was it?

Ive had one day so far with another driver, think I have a few days paired up before go on my own. Suppose everyone got their own way of sorting in the back as the run goes along. Only thing that bugs me is that there doesnt seem to be anything on the oaper work to say you have x amount of frozen, x amount chilled and x amount ambien product for each drop. So literally seems you check and double check in back before you leave for next shop. Seems a simple way for driver to have something to check against?

Lol, it’s the first day, at least you’re paired up to learn not just chucked the keys and told may the force be with you :slight_smile: it will come :wink: one tip, when you get to each drop, drop a flag on Google maps. It could save you a world of pain down the line :wink:

Just been looking how to do that cheers mate! That will come in handy eapecially if doing other routes im not sure off. Some of the bases with wheels are crap too, when theres a high stack even a little kirb seems to want to make the trays seperate! :laughing:
