Any advanced drivers?

The point I was trying to make was if the fact you do advanced driving like all emergency services do. It ain’t going to make you a better driver than those that drive 44 t for a living. Majority would really struggle. However their awareness / perception should be better. This isn’t always the case.
And as I was told on first day of advanced training ,those that proclaim to be great drivers & better than everyone else… usually aren’t.

Eh Jake■■?

Look advanced driving and defensive driving is not just about emergency vehicle driving. That is only a small part and for most lorry drivers not actually required. Why do you say most would struggle?

FYI I have been assessed and passed more tests than I can remember so I know my own level. I was also a fully qualified Instructor and Examiner for a few years.

Certainly can’t accuse you of being modest.

I know emergency service drivers would struggle with normal LGV driving as I see the standard on a daily basis.

I hope this qualifies me in your eyes.

The relevance is that for them to drive on blue lights it’s a far superior level of observation and hazard perception and planning compared to your normal driver. It’s about smoothness throughout those hazards

Except for…

This brain dead blues and twos hero.

Superior levels of observation and hazard perception you say?

I really don’t understand your mentality but seeing you brought it up if we take the percentage of blues and two’s drivers (who drive at high speed and have to make split sec reactions) that have accidents against lorry drivers who trundle along (at a safe distance at a slowly 56) you will find it’s the latter that win hands down.

What the heck are talking about? Most Police drivers have an LGV licence.(Or they used to) I don’t know why you would compare the two .Completely different style of driving with different skills involved.

Nobody KNOWS how good or bad their driving is until they have been assessed by another who is trained to do that
Many THINK they know how good/bad their driving is …

… which reminds me - must get an assessment sorted within next 2 months

Totally agree with you on that one Rog. Seen it many times.

jakethesnake:
You are missing the point again I feel.

On the contrary, I fully understand your point.

MY point that YOU are missing is this…
The ones who go for these courses are more than likely those who are already at a satisfactory (at the least) standard of driving, so the problems on the roads with crap driving does not involve them, so all.they are doing is passing a test that they have no real need or necessity to take.
So they pass it, then stick their ■■■■ grille badge on as some kind of self perceived badge of honour. :unamused: …(although nobody else gives a ■■■■) and walk away with a smug self satisfied feeling, thinking.they are a ‘cut above’ everybody else on the road, (including people like me who are just put down and dismissed with statements like…‘‘We know better, we are right, you are wrong’’ and ‘‘you don’t get it and miss the point’’ etc etc etc :unamused:) .

The ones who cause all the ag 9n the roads, SHOULD and NEED some form of extra tuition driving course simply don’t give a ■■■■, they would not dream of getting off their incompetent arses…so nothing is gained.

So as I said in my first post…What is the point in honing an already safe and competent standard of driving, to learn stuff that is maybe fine, but that you more than likely do not really NEED., so the problem is better adressed at grass roots level imo.
So Jakey that is why I have no need desire or intention of doing it, and not because ‘‘I don’t get it’’ :bulb:

What you saying about that robroy?

Rog is 100% correct on that one.

Well I have never had any sort of badge on my motor. I am just pleased that I know my own driving has been checked by many qualified drivers and am satisfied about that.
You are probably correct that the ones that dont give a toss need attention but would probably disregard it anyway. But I have met plenty drivers that do give a toss and they have benefited from these types of courses eradicating any bad habits and complacency in their driving.

Sorry I forgot you are ALWAYS correct & everyone else is wrong.
If you did read my posts on this thread, like you like to tell everyone else to do. You might’ve cottoned on to fact I work in emergency services.
That’s what I’m talking about.
Get off your high horse & stop getting yourself worked up.

Well, If I AM a bad driver Jake, I will soon know that when I’m regularly getting nicked, increasing my licence points level, and running into things on a regular basis.
I am not at the moment,.and as I KEEP .saying ‘‘I don’t profess to be any better aw driver than anybody else’’ …but my own record and personal criteria of how good (or bad) I am works for me tbh mate, without involving a third party who may be ‘‘qualified’’ or otherwise.
Anyway that said, If I feel the need I’l bell you for some driving lessons.

foodmanufacture.co.uk/Artic … st-figures

Not sure if the links will work but a quick 2 minute search produced these figures, given how many journeys are made by HGV’s compared to Police cars on blue lights perhaps the police are not as safe as some would assume

Nope I am not but I have a good knowledge of this type of subject.
And no I am not getting worked up. Sorry I have not read your posts but I would be interested to hear more about your work?

Ambulance Police Fire or what?

I did the advanced test because I had an idea to become a driving instructor, I soon realised I wasn’t cut out for that job.
I wasn’t that difficult, you have to keep moving briskly, and use the second lane if that means making progress, you’re allowed up to six minors.

Does not sound like a civilian course? Are we talking military?

No, this is what was involved, part one is the advanced theory test, part two is advanced driving and part three, that’s where the instructor plays the role of a pupil, and you need to prove you can teach someone to drive in the correct way, I failed it twice and then gave up, it’s not easy to become a driving instructor, I decided it wasn’t for me

I get it your not interested, fair enough. I would love to sit in the passenger seat of your vehicle (I think) and see your driving. Almost tempted to pay for you to have an assessment.

Maybe just maybe you could be an even better driver. Yeah I know you’ve no interest.

That applies to tens of thousands of drivers but does not necessarily make them as safe a driver as they could be which is what the advanced is all about

You don’t have to commit traffic offences or hit things to still be a bad driver or at least a driver that doesn’t have room for improvement.

Precisely. And this further shows that robroy totally misses the point about what advanced driving is and want it teaches you.

Edit: as do many. Not just robroy. Not just picking on you
