ANPR - anybody

I was driving home the other day in my car and sat in a queue of traffic that was trying to get around a convoy of “travellers” that have set up camp in my village. It seems they are having a “mission meeting” :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Anyway, blues and twos alongside me, and Mr Policeman tells me to pull over as he wants a word with me…

ME, whatever could I have done wrong■■?

So I pull over (in stationary traffic) and get out, “Right” he says, “Your vehicle has just been flagged on our ANPR system, but nothing to worry about as it read your plate wrongly, you are free to go”
Free to go, lovely expression.

I then ask him about the convoy of around 50 vans+caravans that are blocking the road, “Does your ANPR system check these as well?”
“Nothing to do with you, now on your way, you are free to go”, love that expression.

So, do the police bother checking tax, mot, insurance etc on these “travellers” vehicles, or have to turn a blind eye?
Did not seem to be concerned about missing number plates on the one in front of me. :open_mouth:

i expect you will find most of them have addresses in southern ireland, where the vehicles are reg’d to. and the police can’t be bothered to even to try and book them, even if they do, they know that the likelyhood of them paying a on the spot fine is non-exisitant, and trying to impound the vehicles would only end in a riot, but thats life, we just end up paying more for our insurance ect to cover the scum bags not paying :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Got to say - they are clamping down a lot more on our travelling fiends, I work near a large scrapyard which they frequent, and they have an ANPR car sat near it on a regular basis. They were pulling only the theivin sc*m (sorry -politikal (sic) correctness failure there) and a least 3 went on the back of a transporter to be most likly crushed      .

D

The police have a policy of non- harassment where the caravan using nomadics are concerned. They are allowed to harass us though.

No. And yes.

Personally i don’t think the police bother that much with ‘‘Travellers’’ :unamused: The police know full well that their alot of hassle and 99.9% of the time, alot of trouble. They’d much rather tug a driver for dropping a cigarette ■■■■ out a window (not that i condone littlering) or for someone ■■■■■■■ in their own car. I could easily go on and on about so called ‘‘travellers’’ like most on here…but i will hold back :imp: :smiling_imp: :imp:

The Pike? word might be banned on here, but it set off many Irish impressions over our quarries’ 2-way radio when they came in wanting tootunnashingall. I was out the back feeding the field conveyor but the yard shovels disappeared abd made them wait.
Oh; The law do pull them in around here, if only to inconvenience them and stop them ripping off a stupid householder.
