Hello so I started driving this week for agency and let’s just say it’s not gin to plan, first day a 7.5 tonne box van job multi drop covering most of Lancashire and to be honest struggled and missed the last drop transport manager on my back all day, told me I should have been a lot quicker (after all not his licence).
Was supposed to be a weeks work according to the text turned up next day was given the keys to a sprinter and told I had that drop I missed plus four others and was given a time I needed to be finished by.
To be fair could have managed it but thought I’ll take my time.
Went home and was told they did not need me for the rest of the week, now I thought it was odd being offered £10 an hour for 7.5tonne work but as I had signed for paye never thought anymore.
However give the agency their due they got me work delivering vans for £9 an hour and I appreciate the effort on their part.
Then last night I get a call from their umbrella company I basically told the umbrella company to sling their hook as if I want to be a director of a company I’ll set it up myself and fiddle my own tax and NI.
Their response was I need I tell the agency !! I did and as a result I now have a free day tomorrow.
On reflection today I spoke with the umbrella company who have assured me i will not be made a director.
Every agency I have spoken with have got your name in black and white and then said the “U” word after only to then say the most we pay is £8 an hour with paye !
Today I was offered some work tomorrow at £7.50 an hour and basically said I was insulted given it will cost me the first hour in fuel.
Am I being a bit of a ■■■■ to be straight and say no thanks or should I be glad of the experience, also given the first agency gave me rates via text with no mention of umbrella can I hole them to said rates ?
Sorry bit of a long one but it’s taken me a week and I still have none if the experience I seek for class 2 and I have never been one for being shafted without a reach around

Just can’t help thinking the people on the other end of the phone are thinking why don’t you ■■■■ off !!
But £7.50 an hour really is a slap in the face to be offered a wage lower than that of an order picker.
Was told of another shift at £1.75 an hour more but it never materialised die to a technical error and is still outstanding, but the slave labour job is still there if I want it. !!
Now having lived in the offshore industry for years every penny we get has been as a result of us bit taking a shafting and sticking to our guns.
Yet I spoke to another driver this week who admits to taking his 45 break whike operating the pump truck to self tip.
Surely while people are doing this terms will never get better.
Maybe I am just to ling in the tooth and need to wind my neck in to a certain extent.

Did he tell you why he was doing that? Could it have been of benefit to himself?? Don’t judge his actions too quickly, without the full story… If he was doing it because he was pressured into it, he is indeed a toolbag…
We’ve all been there. As a new pass you have to balance getting experience with how badly you want the experience (ie the wages). If you can afford to stick to your guns then do it. As with another thread, personally I’d look at the wages first and what I’m driving second. And I’d dump the agency and look for directly employed. Every time an agency rings me up I’m thinking you’re doing it for your commission, not because you’re worried I can’t put grub on the table

Cos it looks better for him with the agency and he does not belive in breaks, his run wax 4 hours each way, Will add it was his first two days of the working week also

If you put it like that, he sounds like toolbag…

Let’s just say some of the people I have met these past couple of days you would struggle to make the ■■■■ up they have spewed out.

I’m a little offended, I thought we got on quite well!
I think you’re going to have to put what’s past down to experience mate, and your little rant is forgiven, it’s good to get it out…
Sadly we do have plebs in the industry that drag it down for everyone, along with bosses that want the impossible.
Keep plugging away mate, as the more experience you have the easier it gets to find something half reasonable.
