i witnessed one on the a1 in april, the trucker was in court on monday, i guess they didnt need me and my statement which said the cyclist was mad being on the a1 at 4am without lights on his bike ,
Tazbug:
Whilst on my C+E test, waiting at a red light, 2 ahead lanes, city centre I checked nearside mirror to see a male cyclist ride up the side of my lorry and stop about halfway down the trailer. He then leaned on the side of the trailer so he didn’t have to put his feet down…examiner spotted it too…glad I did

What do you do in that situation, point it out to the examiner and wait for him to move?
As a keen cyclist myself ( c2c usa and e2e uk< and others). I know how a truck behaves, many others DO NOT. Should be law to warn cyclists on rear of trailers.DO NOT PASS ON INSIDE.RIP

should it also maybe made law, to make a test for cyclists to pass? (i know i’m being unpractical.)
if there was, perhaps cyclists could be made aware of the dangers of said inside pass, perhaps it could even be made illegal.
i know, i know, it can’t be policed.
the trouble is, there are cyclists like you, who are dead keen, and probably obey the rules of the road, many do not.
same as car, bus, truck drivers etc, always going to be good and bad.

That’s the only thing you can do I reckon.

Something has to be done to educate cyclists on how to ride safely with and around HGVs.
My employer (DHL) does just that with the “Truck And Child Safety” scheme. We take a truck and trailer into local primary schools, and show the kids how the driver cannot see or hear them in the blind spots to the front, rear and sides, and also do a rather graphic demonstration of just how dangerous a place it is alongside the cab/trailer, especially when the truck is turning left. I’ve signed up for it and did my first demonstration at a school in Coventry on Monday. It was very well received by both pupils and teachers.
Try Amsterdam or Beijing for MANY MORE cyclists!
not read it, but RIP and condolences to his nearest and dearest!

cyclists have no sense of humour these days! Back in the eighties, they’d hitch a ride holding the back door handle of your trailer! I always used to think coming out of London on the a40, shall I just tow the fother mucker up the m40 at 60mph plus!

Why do I need to pass a test to ride a bicycle? Passing a bicycle test proves nothing, you only have to witness the mayhem & chaos on the road every day to see the effectiveness of ‘passing a test’.
It’s easy to spot the non-cyclists, as they always want cyclists to pass a test or have insurance or heaven forbid, pay VED.

Ahh that’s why I saw a DHL truck at a school in Bromsgrove not so long ago.
I was wondering what they were doing. Sounds like a good idea!
Wheel Nut:
another truck kills a cyclist again!
You would have thought the cyclist would have learned the first time
you would of thought truck makers would put in a turret for a drivers mate, to man the Gympy! Too many cyclists! 7.62mm AUTOMATIC FIRE!

I wonder if they lost your statement to make the ‘conviction’ easier
