I put my card into tachograph reader today at the start of shift and I have only 16hrs left on wtd 60 hour week. I work every weekend and have my weekly rest during the week. Today will be approx 9hrs of working time. My question is tomorrow I start at 14.30, so I will be working past midnight so does the 60hr finish at midnight or at the end of the shift? I know the working week is 00.00 mon-23.59 sun. I hope the 60hr week starts a fresh at midnight, i asked a couple of drivers but they wasn’t sure. So your help would be much appreciated
Thanks
You’re good to go. From European Union (EU) rules on drivers’ hours and working time – simplified guidance Page 7

What is classed as a week?
A ‘week’ means the period of time between 00.00 on Monday and 24.00 on Sunday.
However, for recording purposes this would be 00.01 Monday to 23.59 Sunday. What is a reference period?
Normally, the number of hours worked each week should be averaged out over a
continuous 17 week period. However, this period can be extended to 26 weeks if
there is a relevant agreement in place. This continuous 17 to 26 week period is used
to calculate the average weekly working time and is known as the ‘reference period’.
A reference period starts at 00:01 on Monday and runs for the relevant number of
weeks until 24:00 on Sunday.
So a week starts the same as the fixed week for drivers hours, 00:01 on Monday.
As above, the 60 hour week is for the fixed week which runs Sunday midnight to Sunday midnight.
For the 60 hour week midnight tomorrow night sees the start of a new week and so resets the hours worked to zero for the coming week.

The fixed week starts and ends midnight Monday. Midnight is the start of the day; not the end of it.
Thanks for your replies, I can stop sweating now
Always wondered why the working week runs from Sunday to Sunday. Realistically, taking a full weekly rest at any time should reset the clock.
If they didn’t make the rules stupidly complicated they wouldn’t make any money-allegedly.
