Another Tacho Question!

This new Merc I’m driving…when my card is inserted, it doesn’t ask ‘rest until now’ like most others I’ve driven…can this be changed on the menu some how, does it record the period between start/end of shift as rest automatically or something else■■? Pressed the button the wrong way the other day and ended up with it saying I’d only had 51 minutes rest in a 22hr period, despite my card never being in for more than 7hrs/night! :open_mouth: it’s one of these things

Only the Stoneridge asks ‘Rest until now’ The picture you have posted is a Siemens. It looks like a version 1.4 and no you can’t make it do the ‘Rest until now’ thing.

If I remember correctly, when you insert your card it will confirm the time (shows UTC and Local), then your name, then it will show the time and date the card was last withdrawn, it will then ask 1M ENTRY ADDITION

If that time and date of last card withdrawal was the end of the last shift, and you have nothing you need to tell the tacho - no additions to the end of the last shift or beginning of this shift - then when it shows 1M ENTRY ADDITION choose YES

It will now show the date and time of last withdrawal on the top line and the current date and time of card insertion on the bottom line. The BED symbol will be flashing on the left hand side at the bottom (if it isn’t bed change it to bed with the up/down). Simply OK on the bed, it’ll jump to the DAY - OK that, it’ll jump to the HOUR - OK that, it’ll jump to the MINUTE - OK that. It will now show 1M CONFIRM ENTRY - select OK. It will now ask for the country - obviously select the right one and press OK. You are now logged in and have recorded your rest.

If you select NO to the 1M ENTRY ADDITION prompt it will just log you in and fail to record start country or indeed your rest. It should record the missing period as ?

Don’t forget - any manual inputs using a version 1.4 or above need to be made in LOCAL time and it will convert it to UTC as long as the LOCAL clock has been put forward 1 hour for summer time.

Not used a Siemens for a while, but is it not possible to put the thing on rest and wait a minute or two before ejecting the card at the end of a shift to avoid needing to do a manual entry every morning?

Yes

The Siemens handbook recommends putting it onto the bed symbol before ejecting the card but it doesn’t mean you don’t need to do a manual entry.

The problem is in the later Siemens there are the VDO INFORMATION screens which show you current driving period, length of next break, how many reduced rests remaining, how many extended drive times available, weekly & 2 weekly drive times, time to next weekly rest etc etc. If you don’t do accurate/proper manual inputs there is a chance the VDO INFORMATION may be wrong and it will remain wrong until the next weekly rest.

Carrying out a manual entry as I described takes 5 more presses of OK than if you don’t - not exactly hard work is it? Plus recording your actual rest is best practice advice and if you happen to drive over the water more or less expected of you.

Shep…thanks for that, proper bit of info that and it is a 1.4. Rarely used a digi so putting manual entries in is what I was hoping to avoid (yeah I know…DCPC blah blah but being shown on a PC to actually doing it 12 months down the road is a different story!). Dreaded getting a new motor in a way as I knew it wouldn’t be long before I was on here asking what’s what and begging for mercy!

Th2013…tried that the other night but to no avail!

Interesting tacho dilemma. For future reference these folks should also be able to help:
