If all (hgv legal) roads to your destination are closed it will simply ignore the restrictions and briefly flash a message in the upper part of the screen which you can easily miss. It says something like ‘‘Part of route does not comply with vehicle type’’ without specifying which part of the route or which dimension of the vehicle (height, length, width, weight■■?) it’s amazing to me how one of the leading sat nav manufacturers can’t actually come up with a way to make a useful sat nav or even properly maintain their maps

There are umpteen signs around those parts that he’s most likely passed advising no HGV access. If he has come off the M62, it’s signed posted that HGV for Golcar and Slawit must go via the town centre and A62.Just seeing the road ahead of him should have set alarm bells ringing!
He should never have got into that situation!
Totally agree, the alarm bells should have been ringing long before he got to this point. My criteria when I delivered to farms, with a wagon and drag, was never drive round a corner that I wouldn’t be happy reversing back round.
When approaching on the A640 he would have seen multiple signs saying “All roads ahead unsuitable for large vehicles” and/or “unsuitable for HGV”. But you can’t educate pork.
A couple of years ago my boss phoned me with a postcode for a collection from Shaw’s at slaithwaite, My truck satnav tried to take me this way, it was one of the few occasions where I have gone in ‘‘blind’’ and not checked google maps, but as soon as I saw the signs I knew it wasn’t right so I didn’t go up there, eventually found my way in off the A62.

There were several very useful features on my previous truck Tom Tom (can’t remember the model number but it was from at least ten years ago) that my current TT6250 doesn’t have. Just goes to show their “development team” don’t bother asking previous customers what they did or did not like
I used to live around those parts, I can sympathize with the driver if he’s not used to being off the main drag, plenty of “unsuitable for HGV” roads as others have said, but it just goes to show that ignoring the little machine and using your eyes is a habit that is being lost.
And I reckon he probably wasn’t getting any help from the numpty route planners in the employer’s office either, if my experience is anything to go by.
Why are people so dumb ok I know human error were not perfect… iv done the same but I would always stop If I know I couldn’t make such turn and would cause accident same with roundabout new area misjudge take one lane look at ns mirror a car had fitted in the gap I will crash so I stop then move till I can use his space
Guess its the new hgv cornflake government boxes
Sometimes if there are no suitable diversion routes, it’s either park up and wait if space allows, if not, turn around if possible and inform the gaffer that you cannot make the delivery. But even then, if none of that is possible, there isn’t a great deal you can do and attempting to take the unsuitable route becomes tempting to get yourself out of a situation where you are holding up traffic for hours.

Bit early to be on the pop…
There seems…
To be a desperation by drivers to make the turn at all costs. Even when it’s blindingly obvious it’s impossible, they attempt it and then block everything up, destroy walls and end up as local news stories.
Long before Sat-Nav, when you looked at a map, the line of the road ahead was clearly defined. U turns such as this are there plain as day. If it appears to be the only way in, then get on the phone. As a last resort, drop your trailer and do a reccy.
It seems this driver ignored many signs telling him not go this way.
Those sinking feelings , I still get them after all these years ha ha

Good. I was just trying to say in my experience they definitely take away useful features that older models had.
