Another question on licences

I recently did some work for a company who asked that I contact DVLA and give permission for them to speak direct to DVLA about my licence before they would give me work. That got me thinking what other companies are able to find out just from a copy of your licence?

that you are legally entitled to drive certain vehicles , when that entitlement expires , the name and address that you supplied are correct and finally if you have any endorsements or restrictions for said licence . i think thats all the info they are given

last agency i signed up for phoned the dvla while i was there and got me to give the dvla man permission verbally to allow a full licence check to be carried out there and then.
dvla cant give info without your permission due to data protection laws.

Begs the question - How the hell do they know it’s you giving permission?

They ask “security” questions such as middle name/d.o.b/postcode/current endorsements etc that - in theory - only you would know all the answers.

“In theory” yes - but if the agency has both parts of your licence then they have most of those answers to hand. Your middle name would be on your application and I don’t think the DVLA have much else to ask - like Mother’s maiden name etc.

I have had this before with insurance where I wanted to change something on my wifes insurance while she was away. My daughter posed as her and they were quite happy to accept her word when she knew DOB etc. The whole thing is a farce.
