Lorry drivers are set to be banned from parking their HGVs near the entrance to an industrial estate overnight following complaints from residents.
A consultation is to be held on whether to introduce to introduce restrictions on Brookhouse Way and Glebe Road in Cheadle between 8pm and 6am every day.
It comes after families have repeatedly raised issues over the past decade about anti-social behaviour such as lorry drivers relieving themselves in the bush and noise from their engines.
A reminder not to shoot yourself in the foot. You can hardly blame people for not wanting an open sewer on their doorstep and engines revving in the night.
Whilst I donāt condone what goes on and agree the residents have a genuine complaint the point is that stopping lorries from parking there only moves the problem elsewhere.
Until councils accept the fact that lorries have to park somewhere, for the driver to fulfil the requirements of drivers hours legislation, closing parking facilities is not going to solve the problem. Proper amenities must be built and maintained to resolve this issue.
Sounds to me like half a dozen nimbyās living next to an industrial estate donāt like trucks parking up overnight and the council bow down to their wishes, that literally takes the ā ā ā ā !
It there really is a problem (and not a made up nimby one) you cant really blame residents for complaining about ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā and p1ssing everywhere, and if theres rubbish to go with the sewer detritus it just brings down an area a levelā¦
Iām the first to kick off when a long term overnight park is shut, but what do we expect when there are so many pig ā ā ā ā ignorant anti social ā ā ā ā amongst us now.

Well, Iām sure that if the residents didnāt have toilets in their homes they would have to urinate and defecate somewhere.
Perhaps the answer would be to make trailers two pallet spaces shorter, and tractor units two pallet spaces longer so they could be fitted with a toilet and shower, but can you really see that happening?

What, provide decent facilities for the driver at the expense of two pallets, are you mad? No I cant see it happening.

The residents could always offer the drivers the use of their facilities.
Where I used to work drivers were welcome to use the facilities but weāre eventually stopped as they left the facilities ā ā ā ā up.
Iāve heard the term many times āuse it or loseā I think the trucking equivalent may be āuse it and abuse itā
Anyway keep your eyes peeled for an announcement on trucker parking facilities or lack of due to ānimbysismā
Harry ! Youve gone all american on me.. been saying that for years..why cant we have real facilities in our trucks..most are flat floor now, so a bit of extra space for a toilet, and a sink..bloody hell..its not like we are asking for much is it..oh, and a space to empty them..I agree that the emphasis is on the hauliers profit, hence the extra longer trailers, as if that makes a big difference anyway 2 bloody pallets..but its space we need. If you look at hauliers today, they have to put at least 18 ratchets and straps in their trailer ( why not boxes for them ) then theres anti slip mats..again in the trailer..all kept in boxes stolen from somewhere ( mine was too )..every place you load..got to move them..brit hauliers are reluctant to spend giving drivers what they need for the job.. When you look at most east europeans they have boxes for the kit, they have a bar for strapping tall loads, or putting corner boards over reels, they have a bar for lifting out the boards in a euroliner, and for pushing the roof back..ive had drivers ask to use mineā¦if i dont have the right equipment, i dont do the jobā¦so if hauliers cannot give you the kit for the work you do, theyre not gonna spend money on a big cab with a toilet/shower.
When i went to the truckshow in america with Rikki and co (MATS )ā¦i asked a rep on the stand who was selling night heatersā¦hello budā¦hows tradeā¦very very slow he saidā¦Oh whys that i askedā¦its because the bosses wont spend money if they cant make money out of itā¦so i said but they leave their engines running 24/7ā¦yes he saidā¦but diesel is only 50p a gallonā¦much cheaperā¦so their bosses have even smaller brains than ours ?
