Another newbie says hello

Looks a nice lorry. And a gold star to you in the agencies eyes that you were able to just go and do it when asked.

As Jen says the food companies are long hours and strenuous work. But if you can get in there it will beat claiming JSA at the end of the week

Aren’t there a few lads here who drive for Smiths of Bletchington? I saw the one with a yank numberplate on the front twice today, doesn’t the driver post here?

Yes…that’s Muckaway with the numberplate on the front

I thought so! I’ll try and be a bit more obvious with my headlamp flashing or something next time…

Hi Dan, having seen the pic, I did notice you. I was on Smiths Concrete at Cassington (11 loads today) puts me to sleep that job I have to take something to read on days I do that. The plate on the front is Canadian  To see me in convoy is rare as I drive somewhat slower than most  I’ll PM you.

Looks overweight on rear axle with that roller right on the rear end :open_mouth:

I can see why you would say that, but when I had a look there was no sign of the back suspension being overloaded or anything. I didn’t load it myself, not that that’s any excuse if it was over, but when I asked about the weights of the kit they are not as heavy as one might expect anyway.

I reckon it’d be ok as you’ve got the hiab on the front to put some weight on the steer, plus there’s an overhang past the wheels. The dumper would spread some weight evenly I’d guess…

Yeah it was well under its max payload, we had it a bit heavier today with some kit coming back from Swindon.

Watch out near J15; You’d need an exorcist down there as VOSA haunt the compound there on the A419

Thanks for the tip!

Hey Banbury Dan,

Keep hitting the streets bud someone will take you in the end and give you the opportunity you deserve!

Out here in sunny Essex there’s been a couple of success stories from newbies on here, who have got permanent new starts over the last couple of months just by knocking doors on every outfit that had a HGV in the yard. I hope Banbury would be the same, however you may have to bang on the same doors a couple of times to get noticed!

I think quite a few drivers on here started with 3663 and other similar companies to get the experience and then jumped onto bigger and better things from here.

I reckon that’s where I’ll be going to start DBC or Brakes to be broken (or become a broken man  ) in for the first year or so!

Liked the photos of the 9T Dumper and the 5 or 6T Vibrating Roller wasn’t it. Good on you getting on that little number, hope it may get you some in roads with GAP maybe!

Best of Luck

C

Well sadly it was my last day today, their regular driver has said he will be back in tomorrow, we shall see.
All in all I have enjoyed myself, and got quite comfortable driving an 18 tonner. I have a couple more photos which I may post later. Right now I am back to contacting agencies to see if any of the need me for the rest of the week…

Some photos:

Mini digger loaded up and compressor behind.

A NIIIIICE MAN that turned up to pick up a telehandler. (MAN and Mercedes are my fave Euro trucks really.)

Unloading.

Heard nothing from anyone since Wednesday, workwise I mean. Been ringing up everyone I can think of but no sign of anything on the horizon. They wonder why there is no fresh blood coming into the industry, I am pretty much ready to start looking into something else, bills are mounting up and not enough work to even cover living expenses…what to do, what to do…

It’s the same story everywhere.

I know how hard it is mate. Quiet time of year for lorry drivers. Keep your chin up.

Thankyou for the support. Goodness knows I’m not getting any from my “employers”. I can’t even find any permanent jobs to apply for around here…

Had a nice surprise this morning, a job in Oxford for HSS tool hire. Muckaway, yes that was me flashing at you on the A40!

Saw this kinda nice Jewsons Mercedes…

I saw you Dan, the Smiths driver infront is normally on an 8wheeler and was telling me how he managed to limp it back from Buckingham to Bletchington this morning before the clutch fell apart. That lorry he was driving might be in need of a driver in a few weeks; it’s normal driver is on trial as a planner and it seems certain he’s staying in that role…
Did you contact our lot? i know our TM hasn’t been in his office a lot this week, he was sorting out the paperwork after a granny near Buckingham tried to push one of our 8wheelers along yesterday

I wondered if you would realise it was me! I did indeed write to your lot, they should have had the letter by now. Any chance you could ask next time you are in for me? I really do need to get something full-time soon before I lose my flat.
