ANOTHER NEWBIE OR SHOULD I SAY OLDIE? [Merged]

Hi guys, been following this site for few months now and its seems friendly and sometimes even funny
My question is, I’m 43 and stuck in dead end customer service role and am seriously thinking about doing my Class 2 soon.
Theory, Medical and HP all done now thinking of jacking current job in and just going for it, CPC and Practical NEXT. I have sent off and waiting for digi card and was thinking about doing 7.5t untill i can get training booked in. My job currently involves a lot of driving approx 200miles daily sometimes and this is the best part of it, so life on road seems really appealing.
Has anyone else left it till their forties to train up and how was it finding work?
Any advise would be much appreciated

OK you may see this posted elsewhere on this site  apologies but like i say ‘Another Newbie’

Hi Mantas. well I know exactly where you are coming from, if its any help I am 57 just got my practical to do now, I always say you are only as old as you feel, good luck in your training.

Hi Stevie, so true and thanks for reply. Good luck with your practical and keep us posted

We have huge numbers of folks who are 50+. Where’s the problem? Go for it if it’s what you want to do - and enjoy.

Pete

Hi Pete, I’m not saying 40+ is old I was just trying to get insight from others who have left it a little later in life to make the change.
I guess the older i get the more nervous i get about making big decisions

Personally you only jump ship if there’s another job to got to, why not consider taking a weeks holiday and doing your class 2 whilst your off, nail it first time then the worlds your oyster, if you don’t you can always day an odd day off a week later for a second crack at it
There’s a little more money driving class 2’s than a 7.5t… not much… salary’s depend who you actually work for and what type of work weather you work for an agency or weather your employed full time…don’t get me wrong its long hours and the money isn’t gonna make you rich,

Rochdale?

Hi, Swampy. I no what you mean about jumping ship but been thinking about it a while and should of done class2 last month, now im out of holiday and may have to wait couple months. I just don’t think i can handle the pressure at work much longer esp. because office run by morons. Least if I do my cpc then i get started on 7.5t and get bit of experience driving something bigger than my work caddy.
I dont mind long hours as long as you get paid for them? I have heard few stories where agencys mess with your wages? Not looking to get rich, just being out on the road without a boss breathing down my neck and dealing with sites who also dont have a clue

Noooo  Northants

Wolverhampton?

Oldham?

This needs to be in the ‘new and wanna be’ forum. Maybe Mods could move it there for you.

heres a phrase that will become familiar with you when your looking for a job…2 years minimum experience…keep your job,get your class2,then get a job that you know will suit you before you jack in the 1st one.in your favour, your not under 25 so thats a bonus.

Hi mantas,

You won’t see it elsewhere now, because I’ve moved your other post and merged it with this one so as to keep the discussion all in one place.

Apology not needed mate, cos we all had a first day when we didn’t know stuff.

Hi Goldilox,

Agreed mate, it did look a little odd in the WAI forum, so I’ve moved it and merged the two topics into one for tidiness.

Hi Mantas,

I 42 years old and was in the same boat, not happy in work and looking to change. So I did 5 day CPC course, got my tacho card and start on 7.5t on monday, that way can try the job before spending big money getting my class 2  , and who knows the company I’am starting work for may help with getting class 2  . Good luck and hope it works out for you.

Thanks for all your replies, and yes its true many are looking for 2years experience but im thinking same as mcyboy141, do cpc get digi card then start on 7.5t. wouldn’t usually jack job in 1st but when its that bad i think you just gotta go for it.

cheers diesel Dave moving post does keep thing alot tidier

And noo little further South
