Another New Guy

Hi all, have joined this forum for a little while but haven’t said anything untill now just been doing plenty of reading!

Im from mid wales and hoping to be doing my c class soon, then hoping to move up to c+e…

im taking my time to decide who to go with, and have stumbled across brian dulson training shrewsbury…

i did start the process with someone from wales but tbh i found them to be a bit rude and decided to find somewhere else…

Ive booked a couple hours with brian dulson, and if i am happy with how it goes will do a course with him, Has anyone else ever been there? did search but only came up with 1 thread and that was just someone telling him it was there but no feedback on how it was.

Many thanks

briandulsontraining.co.uk/ is not one I have come across on here before

If you do decide to train with them and give a glowing review then its likely they will be added to the recommended schools list

Of course you might train with them and wish you never had done so !!

Whoever you train with we always like to get a training diary/blog

Well i have arranged a couple hours for friday, So fingers crossed all goes well!

I will be sure to keep you all updated!

So far all i have done is ditched my rear view mirror!

This might be a bit of a dumb question :unamused: Is the 10 to 2 required in the LGV test? if so i might try and break my habbits right now to get used to it once again

10 to 2 pull push steering is PREFERRED (but not compulsory) as it is deemed to be the safest method for general road driving

Other methods for slow moving are looked upon as acceptable

What does matter is being in full control at all times

Thanks Rog! Been a great help already!

I will have to try and brush up on my steering before i jump in the cab!

Welcome to you
good luck with the assessment and you will find most of us very willing to help where we can , just get used to looking in them mirrors all the time now , every time you do something , changing gears , slowing down , any change in your driving look in your mirrors , you will soon realise that you never used your mirrors enough with your day to day driving once you are looking properly lol
all the best

Alright mate congrats on starting your training its great fun… as others have said theres lots of people on here willing to help you through it and its not easy I passed my cat C about 8 months ago so im still pritty up to date with what they want and expect so any questions feel free to
p/m me or reply… as for mirrors its so so important I drive class 2 dustcarts for birmingham city council and I spend more time looking in my mirrors than I do looking through my windscreen lol… when your training remember when pulling off check your blind spot, then left mirror, then right mirror, then your left mirror again, and I always had a quick look in the blind spot again that sequence is very very important… another thing a lot of people struggle with is forward planning lots of car drivers only look at whats going on just infront of them as a professional driver youll be expected to be able to look as far up the road as possible scanning back looking for hazards and planning well ahead when you master this it makes it a lot easyier and a much smoother drive practice this everyday in your car and youll be surprised how much better you handle situations when you saw them coming from 200 yards up the road as to just getting to it then having to make a quick decision… anyway im rambling so any questions please ask

Thanks for all the help guys!

Firstly i will just say i have noticed that there are a few people in Telford, but have booked a couple hours with Brian Doulson, if i do not like the training for any reason i will be looking for training in Telford, But as of now i am going to stick with my original plan and see how that goes!

Thanks for the help sam! i might send a pm within the next couple days with some questions!

No problem mate anytime

Good luck with finding the right trainer and then starting your training. Just enjoy it, you only get to do it once! :sunglasses:

Well, i went for a lesson on friday… didn’t think it was the best, but didn’t think it was the worst either.

Been phoned up by them today to sort out carrying on and was told if i wanted to do it before july i need to do odd days with them, and organise it as we go along. so im looking at other places atm before i really make my mind up!

Also have my cpc module 2 coming up on the 8th of may, fingers crossed!

only thing i really found out on friday was the instructor seemed more concerned about his lorry than he was about my driving!, for example, was heading down a road with a 40mph speed limit, was sticking to every speed limit, noticed a bump in the road a bit late, and all he could do was rant at me for not slowing down enough, as well as if i revved over 1500rpm at any time he was very p*ssed off with me. is this normal with every training? and i mean even slightly over 1500rpm.

Many thanks

Hi mate I did my traning with top gear in the west midlands and I can say that the instructors do need to be strict as the lorry your driving can be very dangerous to the public and they are expensive to maintain BUT under no circumstances should you feel scared to make a mistake of fear of the instructor this will just make you worse and as for slightly over reving there no excuse for him to get angry about that its a little mistake… my instructor used to get frustrated with me at times as I would do something right 4 or 5 times and then suddenly start making the same mistake again I could hear the frustration in his voice but never did he once make me feel uncomfortable or put down all this did is made me what to get it right because I wanted him to think hes a good driver but I wasnt there and I dont know the circumstances but if your not happy go elsewhere hope this helps

I completely agree that they can be dangerous, and also expensive to maintain… But it seemed a bit odd to be treating someone the way he did for going a tad over 1500rpm (well within the green band) but anyway, been recommended to another place, and I’m starting a course on the 19th, yes, a Sunday!

Fingers crossed it all goes well!

I do agree with you tho it as sound like hes a bit of a [ZB] and I think your right to look elsewhere… and doing weekends is prittt standard tbh I did my training 6am starts sat, sun, mon, tue and test on the Wednesday it suited me because I didnt need much time off work to do it because I went straight to work after the training and only had the whole day off for test day… but anyway I hope you enjoy the experience and I passed on the 2nd test I had no extra training between so if you dont pass first time DONT give up its a bit of luck on the day as well… any question during the training ASK your instructor and P/M me or set a post on here and youll get the answers you need…
GOOD LUCK !!!

Hey guys, thought i better pop on here as we have ha no internet connection for a few days (Lovely wales! :imp: )

Well i passed my first cpc on Wednesday with 2 wrong answers, but… a pass is a pass

Now cant wait for the 19th to hurry up and come.

That’s why assessment drives are so important before booking a course.

As you’ve seen, not all trainers are the same.

Hopefully, the trainer you’ve booked with on 19th is better matched to your needs.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes.
