I have this week received an invite to the book signing of the latest book from Ros Unwin, called “Staffordshire Hauliers Two” which she has been working on since her first book when many, including myself, new of and worked for many firms she had no knowledge of.
This new book covers a wider area and many old firms going way,way back, and I’m pleased to have been of help in supplying some info to her.
The book signing is on June 15th,so look out for the book anytime after that.
I probably won’t be able to make it, but for the benefit of those who can there will the book signing be? or is it invite only??
Jeff
As a contributor I have had an invite,I will ask the question about the general public.
Just received this email from Ros Unwin:
Hi Ian, Glad you can make it. I just send these to the contributors as something to keep. It’s not invitation only; EVERYONE is welcome and, of course, they can buy the book on the day. Please spread the word. Lots of drivers from companies in the last book are coming along as well as ones from this one so people will see mates they haven’t seen for years. I have someone on the door writing out name labels so everyone knows who everyone else is…you know, with the passage of time! It’s going to be a really good do. See you there. Ros
That’s all very nice and everything but a time and address would be good as well.
Speaking of books, how’s yours getting on Mr Booties■■?
Jeff…

I was just about to ask that very same question Jeff!!!
Come on BB,give us a publishing date!!
David
This thread has slipped on to the second page, and no one has acknowledged seeing the info on the new book, hello,is anyone there?
Bestbooties, is Ros Unwin any relation to David Unwin?
Yes I can see your reply, I’ve been out working for a few days. Anyway you only partially answered the question, it was a 2 parter, the first bit was about where and when the book launch was going to be. To which I really appreciate the reply even if I can’t be there.
The second part was… when are we going to see a book from you■■?
Other than my own books, which the first should be available mid July, I don’t think I’ve seen any books about the Middle East driving that has been published in the last 6 years that you haven’t had something in. And that also includes books that are published in other countries and in different languages. (Ferdy) LOL… Waiting waiting still waiting…lol
Jeff…

I don’t know how many Dave Unwins there are,but she is married to a Dave Unwin, has dealt in used truck sales I believe at one time, among his many other activities.

Trust you to lower the tone of the thread “Saviem”,don’t wish that connection on the poor Lass
But then again some people have had bigger crosses to bear I suppose. But if there is a grain of truth in your suggestion and I was purchasing the book I would thumb through every page to see they were printed ,and not blank, before I “coughed up” my “hard earned”
Dennis.

Dennis.
Dennis, some of us have been there, done it, suffered, then made good, BUT NOT, (and the capitals are quite deliberate) trodden all over people, and caused the ruination of their lives.
No, I would not purchase the book, it would not be good enough to use in a toilet.
Perhaps we should remember Renwick Freight, and a number of others,…and of course Wrekin Construction…and that “Diamond”.
One really hard working man of my acquaintance had his life ruined by what happened at Wrekin…I will never forget. He was just a really hard working “normal” man in our village…no money in the world was worth doing that to another human being.
What could be written about Horace, (Kendrick), S Jones, (poor Michael, and dear David Hughes, and his “caravan pad” in the South of France), JL Cooper, and I expect Shirley`s will only start with Arthurs tenure…there are many factual posts on these threads that have more relevance regarding these companys than any "compilation " that one has to pay for could provide!
Dennis, at least two older members have memories!!
Cheerio for now.
Saviem:
and that “Diamond”..
I was led to believe it was a Ruby…

Oh Bestbooties…so were so many others!!!
Yeh got to agree he has been a bit of a character, if I remember right his dad ( squeak ) drove a 6 wheel tipper for st Mary’s plant hire, another firm he bought and destroyed along with a long, long list of others
Now here’s a topic which needs elaborating upon please?
The author’s daughter-in-law was handing out flyers for the
launch at Gaydon last Sunday - she was almost enough to make
me think about going!

I saw her too very attractive indeed but then i forgot the book signing!
Anyone still of a mind to get the book,or has actually bought it?
I believe there maybe a chance there’ll be a third book.
