why i can not make it out, they are all going same way come on instructors whats to be done
errm
Where was the pile up?
Teaching people to look far ahead, not to cut up, and keep a safe distance would help no doubt.

Don’t know which accident you’re referring to, but what do you think the instructors can do about it ?
There should be a government funded educational advertising campaign on motorway driving, like we’ve seen about looking out for cyclists/motor cyclists.

I think I know where you are coming from
Hands up those who want to pay someone like me lots of money and devote lots of time so they can become better and safer drivers - OH - no takers…
…and that is the way it will stay because there is no LAW that says they have to do so and no LAW that says that they wil be periodically retested to check that they are to a higher standard than when they did their last test.
He moght be on about the one on the M40 today, one wagon went through the reservation hit another wagon going the other way so I heard?

Uh oh, this sounds like a heartfelt plea for jobs for the boys to me.
And you certainly won’t get a taker from me Rog, what on earth makes you think you are a better driver than I am?
And why should I be periodically re-tested? I am a skilled professional and have been for more years than most. My skills won’t diminish, only my physical condition, and that is already the subject of a bienniel check.
Teach the young-uns, who statistically cause most of the accidents, properly in the first place. Not your fault though that the system demands you teach what is required to pass a test, rather than how to do the job correctly and sensibly.
difficult one,
having been a newbie I have been subjected to the takes years of learning and your crap ect or give him an hour to reverse in cos he,s a new guy ect,
Now yes i am still learning but consider that i will always be learning to some extent, but cos someone has been driving for 20 yeras ect does not mean he is better then me, or that he did not make the same mistakes as me when he had just passed their test…
a place i worked for short while the yard guy who did,nt have a license would reverse the artics into places that the drivers with experience would refuse as they would say it would not go,
I also think that as part of the basic car driving lessons/test that the learner should be made more aware of the differences in speed restrictions manovability, stopping ect of trucks ect,

Are you referring to car drivers or lorry drivers, or both ?

sorry for the bump but i hope not cause my grandad was the lorry who was hit by the forigner who caused the whole accident and air lifted to hospital was in 7.5 T at the time !!
Somewhere around 2500-3000 die in RTAs in the UK annually. Annual murder statistics seem to be in the region of 700-800. I’ve little doubt we all share similar attitudes to murderers. Usually I hear people say lock them up for longer/bring back the rope etc. Why is it then that we tolerate 4 times the number of victims in RTAs compared with homicide? Is it because we all at one time or another have cause to say “Whew, I got away with that” ? I know that personally, when I was younger, I was a real menace and am truly fortunate to have got this far without killing myself,. or worse, someone else.
Speaking as one who has had numerous penalties over the years, just to let you know I’m not holier than thou, it’s my absolute belief that attitude is the most important aspect when you get behind the wheel/handlebars of anything. Unfortunately in many cases correct attitude can be absent for far too long. I’ve come round to the point of view that penalties in this country are not severe enough. Too many people who have shown that they are unfit to share the road with others are permitted to offend again and again.
As well as attitude there is the skill element, and frankly, so many I come across don’t seem to have much. It can’t be right that a person who has just passed their test on a test route where they are unlikely to have driven above 40mph can go straight out onto a motorway/fast dual carriageway with no further training. There’s carnage going on out there and we see it every day. Question is, are YOU the cause of it?

As someone who has had numerous penalties over the years speak for yourself and if the cap fits wear it.As a new 17 year old driver I had a car capable of well over 100 mph and drove the thing regularly, under instruction by my Dad, while I was learner on a local dual carriage way here which to all intents and purposes is as good if not better than any motorway and at the time of my test I was familiar with driving at 70 mph +.I’ve had just two endorsements in a lifetime so far (one for running an amber light 33 years ago and one for 82 mph in a 70 limit 4 years ago). But your comments are just the typical hysterical type of ill informed stuff which we hear all the time trying to turn accidents into a crime.2,000-3,000 fatalities in a small country with a massive population of around 60,000,000 and traffic movements every day proportionate with that population figure.Having said that we’d probably save a lot more of those young drivers and their passengers if they were’nt forced by insurance companies into mickey mouse small cars which fold up like a crisp packet when they hit something unlike the days when American teenagers were driving yank tanks at the age of 14. .
Ita amazing there are not more the way people drive.Keeping a safe distance would be a great start and unfortunately a lot of truck drivers dont know how to do that. Also it is usually the drivers that think they are good that are usually the worst.Bad attitudes everywhere!

Yeah, keep a safe distance, also known as a gap for the car(s) who can’t be arsed gettin’ in the correct lane, safe distance gone - oh, I know, I’ll slow down and rebuild my safe distance - rinse and repeat…
Car drivers need to understand and respect bigger vehicles, especially when you’re already braking and the daft ■■■■■ jump in thinkin’ “that’s a nice gap”… No, that was my stopping distance you dumb ■■■■■■ - oh look, there goes my laptop off the passenger seat, and then they wonder why you’re a bit peeved.
Worse on busses / coaches because the passengers would report you if you said anything, and car drivers seem to know this.

Probably still waiting to see a doctor in A and E.
In all seriousness though, we were all taught to keep our distance, 2 second rule etc - people just choose not to I suppose and should be jumped on by police a lot more than they currently do.
On a similar note, why don’t people (hgv drivers) wait to be flashed in lately? Every night I get drivers moving back over with about a car length between them and me, if they’d held on a little bit longer I’d’ve flashed them back in when I felt it was safe - and I wait to be flashed back in for the same reason (sometimes you’ve just got to accept it’s not gonna come though).

Really rob? how many times have we seen that picture or the one of piccard doing very similar?
Chin up mate, you might’ve seen it all on here before but not everyone has - I obviously haven’t.
