When I was on Turners, I was responsible for downloading the cards and tacho machines every week for the company and sending the info off.
For a few weeks, I downloaded 1 lads and it came up with ‘no info’, when I asked him about it, he said, you know when it’s dark, and you need money out of ATM, I sometimes put wrong card in, I said What, every week for the last 5 weeks? He said yes, sometimes it looks the same.
I’ve no idea if it’s true or not, but his card had no info on it, that I can vouch for. He was doing ‘other work’ and would’ve been well over his hours.
Please, someone, tell me this isn’t true!
Prior to the introduction of the digital tacho, I wrote (as a joke) in Trucking magazine that this would happen (and that the machine would pay out £40 a week), and that the Drivers Card would also function in a Sky box. These functions (I joked) had been been introduced to encourage drivers to apply for the cards

You can only pay for your driver CPC with a digital card, it knocks the money of your fortnight driving total
Im gonna have to give it a try. 
The only theory I can think of here is that connecting one chip and pin to another device that accepts a different, but same shaped chip and pin might blow the delicate gold filaments that connect up inside the chip - differeng voltages than usual applied to each terminal. That done, the thing is going to read “no info” forever, since it’s been “blown”? 
I can’t say I want to prove myself right or wrong in this theory however, because (1) tampering in this way violates numerous tacho laws and (2) I’d need to cough up to get my card replaced!
I am confident in saying there is no chance whatsoever you’d be able to get any free money out of a cash machine though!
And how long is it that you can drive without a card? My minds gone blank, a week or 2?
If it did work I imagine repeat offenders would see themselves before the commissioner. And if it was true and vosa got wind of it, how much of tax payers money would it cost to replace every drivers digi card?

they can still read the head unit, but if it’s a roadside check with a card reader, then it might be worthwhile.
