Well, since I found it on RoadTransport.com this evening, I guess it is officially not a secret anymore. Another one bites the dust, just happens to be the one I was working for this time…

Despite how that may appear (big numbers etc) I haven’t a bad word to say about the place, it’s been a very positive introduction, both from the other drivers who helped me out a lot to start with, and the friendly approach from the office. I think it was just a build up of a bad set of circumstances. It’s getting harder for the little fish to play amongst the big boys.
Most importantly, they were willing to give me a start when 30+ others were not. I only phoned them initially on the off chance, just by searching for local firms online, and that opened the door. I’ve done my best to make sure they didn’t regret that decision, think i’ve pulled it off for the most part. I wasn’t aware there were any problems until the day they called us all round to tell us we hadn’t a job any longer. Arguably I have come off rather well, as alluded to in that article, a nearby place offered to take the driver’s on. So i’ve gone from a casual verbal contract to a full time one.
It’s still early days for me, though i’ve had my licence since 07, this is my first proper go at the bendy ones and i’m just shy of 4 months in. A few pics of what i’ve been up to…
My view first thing every morning, dark now of course, but this was June. The superspace was the truck I was lucky enough to use the most.
Did two weeks for TNT on nights, a few weeks after I started. Got my reversing sorted out pretty sharpish . These particular bays in Swindon were some of the tightest. Offside was normally empty though, which helped, a lot.
Lots of time at Tilbury (thanks for the advice from some on here about how to go about it).
Fair few traffic cones around the place, above is River Road Industrial Estate in Barking.
The strange end of the country, where the people are… entertaining to say the least. I found Norfolk to be the most relaxed end of the country to drive around.
Broken down last week just south of J29 M1. DafAid came to the rescue and got me going again. Small fragments of the inside of the fuel filter housing had snapped off and fallen down to block the lines. Two thumbs up to Dafaid, who impressed me more than any other breakdown service i’ve ever used both for speed of arriving and knowing how to sort it out. Also impressed with the design of the XF, which puts the fuel filter on top of the engine, rather than underneath it, like certain Iveco’s i’ve had the misfortune to fight with.
On days for the moment, so no tramping as the unit is double shifted. I seem to live mostly on the A34, take thy litter home with you, and don’t pee in my layby’s.
Hope that was of some vague interest.
