what will they think of next
Might actually be a good idea this!
the only thing that don’t work is the time for the system too update, if you buy a car and insure it to start that day what happens when you try to fuel it up on the way back home
Plus the fact that the garage owners will tell them to swivel after the police won’t get involved in tracing drive-offs etc.
And what about people with a traders policy? Trade platers? It will just lead to more and more people having the number plates stolen by the low-lifes and then having to jump through burning hoops to get new ones.
Another cunning plan to reduce the actual police force and replace it with cameras.
That will just lead to more number plates being nicked
And even more fuel theft.
I once bought a car that had some rather odd holes inside the boot by the fuel intake. I asked the garage I got it from about them, and the guy told me that he had removed an electric pump. Apparently the previous owner would park beside a car in a multi story, slip a pipe into their fuel tank, and ■■■■ a few gallons out. The other driver probably totally unaware that he had been robbed.
It would be harder today with locking fuel caps being universal but there are surely ways around it for the determined thief.
Good idea in theory but like has already been said, they’ll just knick more numberplates and it will be an extra hastle for normal law abiding citizens that occasionaly may become ensnared in it due to a clerical error or some such.
Plus they can still fill up jerry cans
What about non UK. Trucks ,Vans & Cars

Spose that all mean i’ll have to get my lawn mover taxed and insurance aswell then…
people who trade insurance are actually suppose to carry there documents everytime they are in a car which they dont own or insured so i have been told so incase of this idea in theory u would show docs before filling up
One simple thing would cure the problem of uninsured drivers. More unmarked cars. It’s no good having anpr set up at lakeside on the A13 when all the tossers are riding past schools in south ockenden and the like. This weird idea I’ve had might also lead to a raise in driving standards in general, but there’s hoping eh

Do yourself a favour and stop listening to B/S’ers. My traders policy covers many more people than I have copies of the policy and also allows potential purchasers unaccompanied test-drives after suitable identification has been shown (that’s almost impossible to get now).
I was told of 1 woman who didn’t have a license to drive yet she did, the car was insured for her husband who never drove it. So how would this stop her ?
