Good for you littleannie, take a few deep breathes to help to keep the nerves at bay.

Sorry, can’t offer any advice, I have many bad habits due to being at it so long, but its so good to see more female hgv drivers on the road. And hate to say this lads… most even drive better than the lads  good luck in June. Sure you’ll be fine, just relax and take your time.

You will be fine!

Your instructor will give you a demonstration drive of what he’s looking to see, just relax. You’ll love it!

Thanks for those messages I am trying to calm down now and do so want to enjoy it. It such a challenge for me and something I have only dreamed about …just want the butterflies to go !!!
Will try and do diary when I get back .

Thanks again

Something, that has always helped for me and after passing the advice on, has helped for other’s on here too, is eating bananas, due to the potassium in them.

If you have one when you get up and one about 15 minutes before you’re due out to drive then this helps massive amounts and I’ve went into every test doing this.

You will be fine the butterflies will settle down just try to relax & enjoy it take your time if in doubt ask your instructor as that what you are paying for

The week will fly by & you will be wondering what you were worried abut

Good luck

Don’t worry, the moment you pull away the nerves disappear and the adrenaline takes over. By the end of the first day you won’t be able to wait for Day 2.

Well you should be due to finish i’d imagine in the next hour if it’s 2 on 1 training - won’t expect you to reply tonight though as this truck driving lark is tiring business.

I have been doing this far too long to give you any good advice, Annie but best of luck with your training and test. Always good to see women coming into the industry.

Hi littleannie,

I’m also an old hand having passed my LGV test in 1979, but there is something that will probably never change…

It is quite daunting to go from the standard of a normal car licence to the higher standard required for obtaining a vocational licence whatever your age or gender.

Regardless of age, gender or experience it’s a thing that we’ve either faced, or are about to face once you’ve decided to step up a level and become a qualified professional driver.

I’d like to wish you every success in your effort,s along with my little reminder that you shouldn’t hesitate to ask a question, because there ARE people on TN who can give you a good answer. I have no doubt about that.

True, Dave … so much better to ask a silly question and get it right than make out you know and make a fool of yourself.

That’s also true Mr Bear, the only silly question is the one that they don’t ask, cos without asking, they’ll still not know the answer on test day.

well how did she bloody get on■■?
