AN emergency amputation team had to be airlifted to a serious crash between two lorries and a car in Longham.
Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the incident in Ham Lane just around 9.18am.
The crash involved two lorries, one silver HGV which is registered to Phil Bascombe Transport Ltd in Wimborne, and a green lorry registered to Somerset company D.N. Crofts & Son, and a black Ford car.
The driver of the silver HGV had to be cut out of the cab and suffered serious life changing injuries but is said to be stable in hospital.
A team of more than 20 firefighters were called to the scene to assist in extracting the man from his vehicle.
Crews from Wimborne, Redhill Park, Ferndown, Westbourne and Blandford attended - and an additional crew from Hampshire were called.
Police closed Ham Lane between Canford Bottom roundabout and the junction with Stapehill Road for nearly five hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.
The senior fire officer at the scene, Richard Coleman, said: “One of the lorry drivers was seriously trapped by the legs.
“In the end we managed to release him but he suffered very serious injuries.”
The driver was taken to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance.
There was also a second air ambulance at the scene carrying an emergency amputation team on board and an emergency supply of blood.
