Another 40mph debate

OR where any other higher limit is posted - I have had trainees who think that a 50 on a single carriageway means that is their limit instead of 40

Hmmm! Some just cannot get their heads around that one. A single carriageway with a 50mph speed limit sign on it always caused havoc on one particular test route and resulted in fails for any trainee who could not get it through their heads that the 50 mph limit on this road was meant to slow down car drivers who had been doing 60 on the previous stretch - not speed up trucks from the statutory 40 mph :open_mouth:

It quite amazes me how stupid most drivers are and cannot tell that the 556 from junction 19 is not a dual cabbageway :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s to do with the way they decide what the word DUAL means. A lot of drivers seem to think that dual refers to the number of lanes whereas the word dual actually means two seperate carriageways which are seperated by something other than paint or plastic cones - the number of lanes is irrelevant as it can be 1 lane in one direction and 20 in the other - it is what seperates the opposing flows that counts.

Maybe it’s time the GPS transponders they keep mooting for bikes and cars were suggested for trucks, to notify the authorities and automatically issue a fine if caught going some way over a given limit… A few dirty licenses might help sort them out more than a few numbers in the highway code

Please tell me the “winky” at the end means your joking?
I followed a sainsburys artic on the a17 yesterday sitting religiously at 40mph. The annoying part for me was i had caught him on the dual only for him to speed up and hold me out, so i dropped back and in behind him. In and out of a layby takes what? 20 seconds maybe… he carries on at his safe pace and i crack on like a good tipper driver…
