our tm went a bit postal today. stormed into the workshop and up to one off the fitters whoos work area was a bit of a mess and shouted ‘this is like the inside of your head’ while pointing at the mess.
we have some kind of head office suit visiting next week so maybe that is behind it??
A professional TM would never speak to his colleagues in such a manner, he has let himself down and should take the time to apologize to the person concerned.
If he can’t handle the pressure of the job then perhaps he needs to find an alternative career, this type of behavior is no longer acceptable in the workplace.
As Harry says, “Verbal assault”. In my opinion, also bullying (due to his seniority as TM). This type of behaviour is never excusable, head office suit coming or not.
I would guess if the conversation had gone on the opposite way around there would have been an official verabal or written warning dished out.
Oooohhh, thats bullying, thats this and that…What a bunch of poofters, that`s whats wrong with this bloody country, too many offended at the drop of a bit of fairy dust, the rest offended upon their behalf …I despair, I really do, we are a nation of soft gits…

I’m going to have to sue you…just spat some lager out laughing!
Personally I think a bit of a good old loud bollocking has never done anyone any harm. A good ole ding dong back and forth often gets things off your chest, everyone says stuff they shouldn’t then put their toys away and sulk for a bit before geting back on with the job.

…and a mechanic whose workplace is tidy hasn’t got enough work to do
It takes the same time to put it proper away than throw it somewhere.
When I was mechanic, I could grap any tool blindly everytime and knew it was clean.
Did the same work or mostimes more than a messy person who was forever looking for his tools and falling over the rubbish in his workstation.
Anybody ever been to our workshops can confirm that they are extreme clean and very busy.

one of ours does this, shouting, intimidating drivers, but like all bullys when you shout back at him he soon backs off.

I’ve been in this exact situation, a few years ago.
TM stormed into the garage and started shouting off at everyone in range.
When he started shouting at me (for something very, very petty), I was stood quite close to him.
I grabbed him with both arms and gave him a big, manly bear hug, back-slaps the works. At the same time giving it “there there, don’t worry, things will get better soon, chin up mate, nowt a good hug can’t fix”, in a louder than normal voice.
The rest of the fitters ■■■■■■ themselves laughing. I let him go and he stomped off.
We laughed even louder when we saw the big mucky hand prints on the back of his nice clean shirt
i had this sort of thing a year ago from the owner, flew off the handle, over nothing and in front of the mechanics. within in 5 mins i’d set the ball rolling for a new job, that i then started the week after.
to me, part of being a good boss is working out how to speak / bollock different people, some people need shouting at, others don’t.

The problem is that unlike the 1970’s when it really usually was a case of that ‘good old ding dong’ ‘back and forth’ in which the guvnors got back with interest what they were dishing out,now it’s all about ‘the right to manage’ which translates into the guvnors being able dish out whatever they want but no one can dare say anything back to the zb’s.
In those days the answer would have gone along the lines if you’re good enough to fix them you’d be a fitter not a TM so zb off back to your office and get on with your job and let me get on with mine.
Never had a problem with a TM or my Boss shouting at me.
Happens, don’t reduce me to tears, doesn’t impress me, goes one ear in the other out.
The only thing what you hear nowadays is: drivers who get bullied, discriminated, ■■■■■■ intimidated and what more for nonsens
Are they all turned in little crying girls blouses?
I think it’s normal if you mess it up big style, do damage through your own fault, or the third time that week not through your own fault? Or are not able to follow simple instructions, that you get a bollocking. No probs!
Get a grip, grow up and go on with your life.
The problem is nowadays that the tolerance level is much to low, people cry and moan with healthy feet.
If you want to know about shouting and abuse, sit a week on a TM chair and take the ■■■■ from the customers, drivers, mechanics and his boss, than maybe you understand where frustrations sometimes comes from.
Nothing wrong with a good old fashioned tear up, all forgotten about tomorrow. Trouble is now, where there’s blame there’s a claim. I’m offended/scared/discriminated/harassed pay me all your money. Man up
