Hi Rowland, yep, i remember Anglo Dutch very well. I lived 100 yards behind their place in Eastbourne! I had a few mates who drove for them. It was a sad day when they finished, probably 5 years or so ago now. I’ve got just 1 pic of a scania they had with me and my mate Malcomb Bettles who drove it. I’ll dig it out. They finished with XF Dafs after a spell with FH Volvo’s. My old guv’nors brother Robert Dobbs drove for them for many years from very early on, I wonder if it was him with the F88?. Check out the “long gone sussex hauliers” thread, I think there may be a pic or two there.
Regards,
Mark.

We worked on the trls from the 70s. The transport manager Barry Wilson(nice bloke) started off as a meat humper/loader
They hired several trls of us.They also load out of ADM Charing. They would load
the hanging meat then run the trl down the ramp to get more on
In the 80s/90s they would ship out on Sundays to France/Beligum and Holland
They had a trl fitter called Charlie nice bloke
Will sort out some photos

I think Charlie was a driver, then had enough so came off the road to do the shunting and maintenance. Big moustache if I recall?
They had some good blokes on there, most were old colleagues or mates of mine. I still see a few about locally. Can you remember any of them Andy?

Mark.

No, I never worked for them. I didn’t fancy fridge work at the time and wanted something a little further afield and varied. I still see Jan, top bloke, he does UK only now for Hardstaffs. I remember Cloggy, never spoke though. He broke his ankle once wearing them. Also Jonny Neale, Malcomb Bettles, Chris Coley, Dave Boniface. All still in Eastbourne, I see them all regularly. Good bunch of lads. I remember the 2800 and 3300 Dafs very well, as I said I lived directly behind their yard.

Mark.
