And they wonder why morale is zero and no one wants to work

You can have New Year’s Day off but you have to agree to work 2 o/t shifts in return, :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :unamused: you won’t,request refused then :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: ■■■■■

How is morale zero ? Do you realise you service a retail operator that operates 24/7 and as many days as is possible throughout the year ? What part of that are you not understanding?

jesus dozy,

instead of moaning about it on here pack the job in and let someone else do it :unamused:

I’m on for Tesco and the dc I work out of is closed on New Year’s Day, but Mike-c is right, this is my 1st Christmas working for a retail company and I’m not overly keen as I normally have 10 days - 2 weeks off for Xmas and new year. I was due in Boxing Day on my rota but we got enough volunteers to cover the volume of work, so I managed to get it off, was paying double time and a lieu day, but family time is more important to me so glad to have an extra day off.

First you complain about being asked to work Christmas now its a problem with New Year,
If you want to work Monday to Friday and not have to work weekends and holidays don’t work for a company that operates a 24/7 365 day service.

Why not? You can work for such an outfit, just agree on what you want before you sign the dotted line…:grimacing:

That’s retail for you I’m afraid. I’m at the Widnes depot with ESL but work nights. I should be finished by 6am this morning (Xmas eve) then I’m back in Boxing Day night. Got new year night off but in new year day night. Not so bad really, I’ve had much worse

Might as well grab what you can at Tescos - There is a notice up asking full timers to take “unpaid leave” in January, 'cos the projected workload is expected to drop off that sharply in the new year…

Take the “days”, cos that might be all there is for agency until Easter… :frowning:

Christ. I had Christmas week booked off and now I’m off half of next week too. Could have had the full 2 weeks if I’d wanted. Ah I don’t work in the retail bit[GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

i work in retail but booked this week off at the start of the year  my mate who drives for Royal Mail on nights is continually moaning about his shift pattern this Christmas…gets very boring after a while zzzzzzzzzz

Put my name down I’ll do it just to shut your moaning face up, guess he’ll be moaning in January when he is a little short of money too.
No pleasing some folk

Merry Christmas to everyone else

My daughter is a nurse & she’s on 12 hours today, tomorrow & Boxing day… off New years eve but in again New years day.

No double time or days off in lieu, that’s how the job is.

Its the same as the arguement about muslims selling alcohol in M&S. If you dont want to work over xmas and new year dont take a job at a firm who by the nature of there business will be at there busiest in that period.

Dozy should drive tippers; Generally a shutdown over Xmas of about 10 days.
…Then again at this time of year it’s either filthy dirty or frozen in the back.

Which is ok if they’re happy to accept that, but most of these companies want and need people who are more flexible with there attitude to working hours.

It’s a bit like me going to a racing team and telling them I don’t want to work weekends on the summer and want 2 weeks off for my summer holiday, I doubt I get the job.

i was in the quarries for years, and we’d always shut down for 10-12 days, but had to take 4 or 5 days off our holidays to accomodate the ‘in-between’ days.

I don’t mind it as I do a lot of Oxford city loads; The student fanny is always covered this time of year but in summer, I keep twice the stopping distance.

I cannot believe the cheek of some employers these days, they take you on as a driver and then expect you to turn up whenever they want to get a driving job done, disgraceful. Refusing to do what you’re paid to do is what had made this country great, no wonder all sorts of johnny foreigner wants to come here.
I remember a place I worked at years ago, after going on strike and many talks with upstart management we managed to get a new deal. Shop Stewart announced the deal " we have a pay rise & now only work on wednesdays & have to be in and ready to work by 8am , 2 hr lunch & finish by 4 pm" I was livid so I queried it" what! Every Wednesday?"
