And they still moan

Now they are moaning about a tv advert poor cyclist.

I know should keep up posted in another post see cyclist death.

How you get through their thick bigoted skulls i don’t know.

Being not to blame when you’ve been through the mincing machine of a double drive set of rear wheels is not the answer, no good pointing a ghostly finger of blame from your coffin or hundreds of the twitterati/faceache legion spouting anti lorry bile while your family’s hearts break, when a lorry and a cyclist collide there will only ever be one outcome and that will never change.
If that ad brings the reality of what can happen then it can only do good.

It’s a crap video,simple as that!
All they had to show was a stationary wagon with its left hand indicator on sat in traffic and a cyclist going up the inside of it and then the wagon moves off and turns left,I can see where the cyclist are coming from on this, there is no doubt some need educating but this video does not do that at all,it’s nothing but a half arsed attempt by some film company at making it and they got it so wrong,it’s unbelievable it actually made it onto the TV or wherever it was shown.
Watch the video and you’ll see,it fails in delivering any message.

To be fair, the most venomous anger seems to be coming from twitter users and that lot could get offended at the wind changing direction so I wouldnt take too much notice of what they say

Personally I think everyone has a right to complain about that advert but the cyclists are moaning for the wrong reasons :unamused:

It’s a bloody stupid advert and a waste of tax payers money, look at the Twitter comments in that news article, most people think the lorry has overtaken the cyclist then cut in front of him.

I’m all for government sponsored educational videos but that one is a total waste of time and money in my opinion, whoever commissioned it should be sacked immediately.

It’s a crap advert that completely misses the point it should be making. It’s no use showing a tipper coming from behind a cyclists then turning left across them then telling cyclists to hang back. It’s the truck driver who should have stayed back in that example.

They should have showed a cyclist going up the inside of a slow or stationary truck which was indicating left, leading to the same consequences with the hang back message.

It does show the cyclist going up the inside of the lorry but it’s so poorly made you’ll need to watch carefully and maybe a few times to see it.

Not very well done, in that example the lorry driver would be at fault. As others have said, redo it and it will get the message across a lot better. That said there does seem to be an awful lot of cyclists who have no idea of their own mortality. They are arguably the most vulnerable people on the road, so some self preservation instinct wouldn’t go amiss.

That really is a poorly made and confusing advert. There shouldn’t be any confusion at all, cyclists don’t go up the left of a lorry, and lorries, don’t overtake then turn left. Even after watching it several times I’m not sure what the situation here is.

The ad seems to make the point clear enough while it’s equally clear enough why the cyclists are moaning about it.

IE they want carte blanche to go on ignoring all normally accepted rules of the road and then put the blame on innocent road users when it inevitably goes wrong.Just as in the case of the similar epidemic,of motorcyclists being taken out on a similar basis,by right turning traffic, while trying to over take traffic through junctions, decades ago. It’s therefore up to the cyclist road user group whether they want to take the hint or not.

As for indicators the point is don’t try to over take or under take traffic, especially trucks,on the approach to and let alone through junctions even if there is no indication of a turn.In just the same way that you’re not supposed to rely on a possibly erroneous indication of a left turn to pull out of a junction. :bulb:

Realistically the idea of holding back and not entering the junction together with the truck is the life saving point.Even in the case of the cyclist wrongly being overtaken on the approach.IE it’s no good being right but dead in that case.Or for that matter relying on a possible indication mistake. :bulb:
