And the answer is........?

You look at the site: an occupied school building where you’re delivering a load of building materials for the new ‘extension’.

Because it’s a school you have to manoeuvre through the car park. (Yes, I know it would have made more sense for the cars to be parked elsewhere but you all know what happens in ‘the real world’).

The manoeuvre started with an 90 degree open side reverse off a main road (no, no-one to control the traffic).

You then have about a 200 yard reverse, with a blind-side ‘kink’ half way back, and never much more than about 2 feet clearance on either side of the trailer.

Ok, so it’s not the worst thing in history; take your time, take it easy and no problem.

Total time taken? Probably ten minutes, possibly longer.

Put the hand-brake on, get out of the cab and give a cheery ‘Morning’ to a couple of women who’ve been standing watching since just after you started… only for the women to then get into a car which is parked by the trailers rear wheels – and then demand that you move your lorry so that they can get out of the car park because they have an urgent appointment elsewhere.

What would your response be?

I got in trouble once at a school where similar happened. I was a little tired lets say after a long day and this was the last drop before a big trek home. In the middle of the delivery a women comes over asking me to move as I had blocked her in - She was parked in the loading/unloading area so I politely told her I would be finished in 10mins at most. So she tells me she is already running late for a meeting blah blah blah, she says its very important as it is about child abuse (Or something of that nature) to which I reply “I don’t have kids so im not that concerned”

Not my finest moment and was on the crap list for a while.

Hope you had a tipper? Dump the aggregate and remove truck. Donno if they`d give you a clean signature tho?

We do a shop in Liverpool, turn off the main road then left into the opposite yard reverse across the road to get between cars to the shops back door pita sometimes, just as your starting to tip, they get out the car where they have been watching and ask “can you move I’m in a hurry”,the last 1 got “yes I can move but as you sat in your car watching errr NO” only had 2 pallets stuff moving lol.

I think it would depend, but in general I would let them out. They may not have felt comfortable trying to stop you until you got out, or been sure what you were up to (or how long you’d take).

I’m on break see yer in 45mins :grimacing:

the general public have a habit of doing that,my answer would be you will have to wait

Used to get the same ■■■■■ on the bins everyday my answer was always the same… I can move but your bins will be getting left if I do… They would always find another route or a spare 5/10 mins to allow you to crack on

The best one I had was "i’m late for my train " the house and road was 1/4 mile from station ! get up a bit earlier :unamused:

My favourite where the ones who got so fed up waiting they would mount the pavement, I’d always open my door and watch as there eyes about popped out of their heads!! I do miss that job at times

It’s always either an urgent appointment, pick the kids up or a hospital appointment.

At 1st I used to move then cottoned on to and and explained politely I’ll be as quick as i can the the longer we debate it then the longer the delay would be.

I deliver to the same places regularly but only once a fortnight and for ten minutes at most. It’s amazing how many people only need to move in that ten minutes.

Yep, you do wonder why it always seems to be that precise moment that they need to move.
But that’s sod’s law and I’m glad I’m not alone!

I had one the other day where I pulled across in front of an entrance gate for the forkie to take a single pallet off. Just as the forklift approached, a van pulled out of the internal car park and up to the gate (just in front of the forklift) and gesticulated for me to move…

Did I move? Did I Bollox!!!
