Analogue Tacho Charts

This might seem a bit of a daft question but are all analogue tacho charts universal or do you need to purchase the same tacho chart thats manufactured by its respective tacho company?

I’ve seen some cheap ones on ebay made by chartwell but the centre hole is a complete circle where as the stoneridge tacho charts have a circle with a sort of notch at the side.

Also someone is selling stoneridge tachograph digi-fobs on ebay - would this be a good investment for new drivers?

Thanks in advance.

Tachograph charts used to come normally as either “Pear” or “Veeder Route” Pear is more normal as the VR ones became less used, these have 3 holes and a locking ring, where the Kienzle type pear shapes are a push fit.

As long as the numbers on the back of the card matches the number inside the head then they are legal for use.

If the card has a list of numbers like;

E1
E2
E3
E7
E32
E40

and the head unit has;

E5
E9
E11
E29
E35

Then the cards are not legal, this is exactly the same with digi cards and printer rolls.

I wouldn’t waste my money on a digi fob as the information is free on any vehicle unit (VU) display

Thanks Wheel Nut,

So I’ll forget the fob (good news, didn’t want to spark out for it anyway so thanks for that).

So is there a tacho chart that fits all models? Just wondering as although I have digicard, would like to have spare analogue charts just in case of the rarest of circumstances there wouldn’t be any available.

I imagine any decent card like Kienzle or OEM cards will fit most but as I say the numbers have to match the card and the head. In 33 years I have never bought any tacho cards, log books or digital rolls. I have always used the ones I find in a truck. You only need 2 or 3 and borrow a couple the next time you are talking to a driver

Thanks Wheel Nut for the advice

Will do.

Thanks.

Hi Want to Truck

Any company you work for will supply anaglogue tacho for you just ask for a couple when you go in or look round truck normally a packet in there somewhere !!!

Jx

Ask the company you’re driving for to give you tachograph charts it’s their job to supply them, you should always carry at least one spare chart in case anything goes wrong and you can’t get back to base on one chart.

Thanks Jennie & tachograph for the advice.

I will be sure to lift as many tacho charts as I can :wink: (well maybe just a couple) as soon as I manage to find work.

Thanks for the help :smiley:

Digital Heads have been mandatory since May 2006 so there are probably more lorries that need a plastic card than a wax chart. More so in the big fleets. I probably have a couple that are E1 cards and If I could be arsed I would post you some :laughing:

I have been driving for 12 years and only come across the "pear"shaped centre hole.The wax chart comes in 3 varieties you need the right one for your vehicle.The speed rating on your tacho head has to match the speed on your chart.If you use the wrong chart your speed trace will not be accurate.
