Analogue tacho and correct time of day and defects reports

hi everyone.
im new to the site and have tried to find this subject on previous threads…
so apoligise if it has already been taken up----
but-----
im currently driving a old 53 plate vehicle so using an analogue tacho…
does the time shown on the tacho have to be within a limit of - or + correct time of day…
now we all know a digital tacho has incorrect time for some of the year-that cant be altered-
but the analogue tacho can be manualy altered----
so what is the law on correct time .

now other question is------
if you do daily defects and you pick up say 5 minor(they not life threatening -to me) faults.
bent step into cab-
grease container for hiab(damaged)
tacho problem as above-
warning buzzer when crane is stowed away
rear side light bulb blown(and none in office)

would you say this is enuf to put vehicle of road-

the manager is aware as he signs the defect report-but the vehicle needs to pay its way so he wants it out.
all comments welcome and will be interested to see how others look at this.

thanks dave

Welcome to Trucknet Uk davelap

First of all lets get the digital tachograph thing out of the way, the digital tachograph does not have the incorrect time that can’t be altered at any part of the year.
The digital tachograph records all activities in UTC time and this does not alter during the year.
The time shown on the vehicle display unit is local time and has nothing to do with what’s recorded on the Driver card, the local time displayed can be changed.

I’m not sure what the law is on the accuracy of time on an analogue tachograph but if the time needs changing why not just change it ?

As far as the defects are concerned there is no set amount of defects that means the vehicle should be put off the road it depends on what the defects are.
I can’t imagine any circumstances where you could justify putting a vehicle off road because the step is bent but it’s certainly illegal to drive with no rear light on one side of the vehicle but you should have spare bulbs.

The time on the analouge tacho should be the same as the country of registration of the vehicle, regardless of the time of year or location of the vehicle.

well thanks so far…
as an agency driver i get comments made to me for doing this and doing that with ref to defects.
how many drivers at beginning of every day(more likely every week) check everything on their vehicles.

this vehicle with the analogue tacho has been an hour off correct time since the change to bst.
to most managers and transport officials im just seen as scum and can be fobbed off.

will try and change the time myself on mon----or ask to take it to local garage.
thanks

Analogue tachos

The second video which is likely to be the sort being used shows nothing of changing the time

yes its the same as the second video…
and it being a mercedes truck its not a straight forward pressing a few buttons.

thanks guys.

I can’t remember the last time I had to change the time on an analogue tachograph but there was a post here recently about just that.
I believe you hit the button marked “M” then use the + and - keys to adjust the time but hopefully someone who’s done it more recently may be able to help more.

If it is the second type, the one with a drawer, most of them change time automatically but only when no charts are in the unit. Open the drawer and make sure there is no card in the second drivers position, keeping a chart in there is the main reason the time does not update automatically and it is not necessary to keep a chart there. If there is a chart, remove it and close the drawer, you should hear a whirring noise and the time will then be correct. If that doesn’t work then it doesn’t auto update and you will need to do it manually.

There is no excuse to drive a vehicle with a blown bulb two days on the trot and if you had marked it blown on Monday an was still driving it on Tuesday, then VOSA may want a little word wiv your wallet. If the manager has “signed it off” maybe he needs to nip out and buy you a new box of bulbs

The one that worries me is the Hiab with a warning buzzer sounding, maybe the buzzer is warning of a failed microswitch or something, maybe it is more serious, but if you think VOSA have a lot of power, wait until you drop a pack of bricks on an old ladies head.

H & S will make you ask if you can share a bed with a gay sumo :stuck_out_tongue:
