I remember smiths coming in to Thomas Group at Urmston and to Great Bedwyn with scant slab usually the ones we were waiting for

Enjoyed watching that, thanks for posting and as for the s/a not being fit for Euro work , it was an Iveco cab with a ■■■■■■■■
No worse than what it was running with

Typical though. Sending drivers to Europe in a collection of small cab trucks, when decent cabs were available. This was the late nineties (or maybe even the early two thousands… ), not the seventies… The one Eurotech high cab doesn’t change the other 'wendyhouses '. British gaffers only difference with East European gaffers is the language the speak.
I don’t understand
Interesting video , I can remember Smiths motors were regulars up & down the A1 ,think they had a spell on Dutch plates for a while, been some time since I last saw any of there motors though ,not sure if they are still operating??
After seeing the Merc and the S/A trucks I wasn’t expecting them to get on the train[emoji54]
Didn’t realise I was that old [emoji1787] also it must’ve been quite early in the trains life as food was still being served.

One of the (I think.) directors sadly passed away 3 years ago, aged 50 I think, and was Chairman of the local autograss club.
Ken.
Drivers & their vehicles looked like they were from the scrap heap.
