after recently passing my C+E, I’ve been working part time weekends as well as keeping my full time job untill I found a company that would take a newly qualified driver on.
Feels like I’ve filled & sent out 3 application forms per night since passing
After a couple of knock backs, I have been offered a position @ RGF today driving class 2’s on class 1 money & will train me on the things you dont learn on your Test before they put me on the Artics. Was not sure if he was only offering Tramping? i will need to clarify this tomorrow but I’m not sure on doing tramping @ all■■?
Tomorrow I have an assesment drive @ Amtrak Aldridge Hub, where if that goes OK they too will offer me a job- not a bad wage but it is set & you are contracted for 60hours pw, with no OT but there is a pension, life insurance & fuel bonus.
They too told me they have no problem taking newly qualifide’s due to the TM and senior driver being qualified trainers & will work on me
What I am after is anybodies experience of either of these companies,
Not heard anything about either of these, BUT since you have had all that time and expense getting your class 1 I would be tempted to go with whoever will give you class 1 work straight away. Once you have some experience it would be easier to get a start elsewhere if you didn’t like the place anyway !!!
Hi Gazzareth how you doin?, cheers pal hopefully I’ll give the amtrak TM a good drive tomorrow & I’ll take the job with them as that is the one i’d prefer.
if its amtrack on nights forget it. mate of mine did the hounslow run with a luton collection. jacked after 1 week. loads of promises loads of bullexcriment. take the rgf job. gary ford genuine and straight as a dye,
How can you do 60 hours a week.Every week? on amtrack
And ive never heard anything good about RGF either.
Sooner drivers start working the wtd rules the better. Then the will find out the wages are’nt enough and hopefully start looking for a job that pays a good wage for an average 48hours.
you can quite happily do 60+hours every week with the right amount of poa break
show me a non driving job that pays a take home of 400+ a week that an average driver could do. znd would be happy doing.
the wtd is a complete joke as it is its just a paper chase the sooner scrapped the better (note the uk is the only place where its followed, most drivers from france spain etc don’t know it exists)
next year hgv drivers tacho hours will be reduced anyway so what’s the point of the wtd except a bit ov pr for mr bushs sorry b liars hangers on

was told by there TM you are contracted for 12hrs a day, but obviously you have to abide by the tacho laws, but as pointed out in other posts this can be acheived with poa etc
my mate was a night driver based out of roadways yard. start time 15.00. was not allowed to have the night heater running (was winter) left at 02.00 ■■ drop hounslow then collect in luton and back to yard. his exact words about the running of the job are unprintable on here. but pm me and i will put you in touch with him. gary ford wants his pound of flesh but you will be paid for every minute you work.

Not much is being reduced, Driving hours stay the same. Daily rest stays the same, apart from the 8 + 4 split rest - it will be 9 + 3. There will be no requirement to compensate for reduced daily rests. The only major change which could effect a few will be the need to have a full 45 hour weekly rest every fortnight, that one will effect me as I never take a full 45 hour weekly rest at the moment. The other one can be reduced down to 24 hours, even at home, instead of the current 36 hours. Reduced weekly rest will need compensating for. As with the WTD, the new regulations will mean little or no change for most drivers. About the only thing that could be called a reduction is the new weekly limit of 56 hours driving, at the moment you can drive for more than 56 hours in a week, but that won’t effect many drivers.
