American Trucks

I was watching American Hotrod on Sky yesterday and they had a car delivered on a ‘semi’. As it was leaving I noticed how ridiculously big the tractor unit is. On an English truck you sleep behind the seats but on American trucks they seem to have a separate unit behind the cab. It looked about the size of a vauxhall zafira! What exactly is in there? An en suite?

They wouldn’t have many drivers with Cab as we have

Basically, YES.

Double bed,shower,wardrobe,toilet,tv,fridge(proper one),cooker.
Regular home from home.

Problem is…I worked with one guy out at either Victorville or Mojave airport. He had parked outside on a deserted camp where army practiced raiding buildings. No traffic biggish roads, and he couldnt even make a T junction easily because of the length of his cab.And then, when we unloaded he told me hes getting a bigger one next year.So thatll be a few less roads he will be able to negotiate again.Ridiculous.

I`ve looked on the above link :open_mouth:

It`s basically a studio apartment!

One of the captions says it has a fireplace!

Mind you it would make a really nice motor home when you retire.

a few i took in florida

When i was out in Vegas a couple of years ago, i got talking to a driver in the truck park. He showed me inside the unit he had. it was unbelievable.
He told me he actually used it has his home. He was a single bloke, He said that he sold his house as he was never there.
He didn’t need to have a house or flat because this unit had everything.
He said that he always tried to end up in Vegas at the weekends so he could do a bit of gambling, have a few beers and hopefully pull a woman. Which he said that more often than not he did.
No tacho’s. Just the old log book to keep track of his hours.
What a life.

Plenty of room in the modern shaped Freightliner…

That’s the size of the ones me and the missus lived in for 5 months through a Canadian winter.
The wife was dwarfed by them…
