American Truck license

Hey there…was just wondering how americans go about geting there truck licenses…how many tests do they take…do they take theory tests! The only thing i do know is they take a strict drugs test. Id of thouyght it would be much easier to drive trucks in america…look at the amount of space they have!!! :open_mouth:

What room and space    I took my test in Glens Falls which has narrower streets than most towns in the UK with a 72 foot long artic. Interstates are about the same width as any motorway back there, in a 25 or 30ft long tractor with a 52ft trailer behind, I would like to know where all the space is
You have to take a theory test before they will issue the learners permit anyway :exclamation:

Yes, first you must have a US car license, then take the permit test, then pass the road test (not easy in NY with a 53’ trailer, BTW). In the road test, you will be required to parallel park the unit with no tyre more than 6" from the kerb.

The Class A CDL costs over $100 in NY, and lasts 8 years. Hazmat endorsement now required passing a test, being fingerprinted, having an FBI background check, and this costs about $100, but must be renewed every 2 years.

And theres me thinking you just had to drive in a straight line for half a mile and they threw the licence at you…after all…anyone can drive a truck…cant they.
   our licence is the most valued in the world and one of the hardest to obtain…its a lot less easier to lose though.
have a nice day
