To quit my job.
To spend the whole year without seeing the inside of an ambulance

Currently it’s a toss up between a Scottie to ‘replace’ Ruby or a deer hound:
If you want a dog to keep them all entertained, how about a Cockapoo - daft name but absolutely bonkers dogs and will wear out all your others while you read your books.

I almost achieved that this year . I only count emergency trips these days .
So 2018 = 1
2017 = 7
So it’s heading the right way , fingers crossed .

I want to do the full length of the Hatfield tunnel whilst holding my breath and not passing out like the last attempts.
You Bugger, now I have read that I know I will want to try it on the 7th jan in the motorhome when I come back …to see if it’s possible!

Trev, they are lovely but I like a proper breed. Part of the thinking behind the deerhound is that it’s a UK dog on the Vulnerable list. I also thought of a Glen of Imaal instead of a Scottie, smallish, but bombproof and another on the Vulnerable list. I think it would be a shame to lose some of our old dog breeds.
My mate has a deerhound, but she’s currently on gardening leave, due to injury.

Your mate or the deerhound, commonrail?
It’s not a breed I’ve had before, though I know someone (her husband is on here) that has had large dogs all their lives, currently have too Borzois/Russian Wolfhounds - gorgeous dogs but remarkably fond of their beds
I think we need a poll of what dogs people would want if they could as I’d never heard of a Glen of Imaal before, but that is soooo cute and I’d love one. Err, I mean it looks like a solidly put together mutt which would fit nicely in the footwell of the truck and scare away wrongdoers with its barking…I didn’t say cute, really.
Am a little worried you might be taking your work home with you especially describing a dog as “bombproof”.
OssieD - it’s simple, you just need to keep logging in and if we don’t see you for 3 days running we’ll assume you drove off the mortal coil, although not sure if you get charged for the damage to the crash barrier!
Hatfield tunnel people - please tell us when you’re going to do this as the rest of us need to stick around to see if OssieD posts on Jan 1st 2020. Alternatively, the BBC would like to know as they can use it for an episode of Casualty as motorhome vs “truck carrying mysterious blue tubs” + tunnel could get interesting.
grumpyken52 and scottie0011 - get yourselves a Glen of Imaal dog as they say dogs have wonderful healing properties. Plus if you decided to take up the Japanese art of Qigong, dogs like that won’t look at you as if you’re nuts.

The dog
Ripped her leg open…chasing a hare

Too late, you said cute. I’ve met a couple, last one at Norton Canes, friendly, proper terrier looking. Be a real shame if they died out. Along with Dandie Dinmonts and Sealyhams and the Cardigan Corgi (one of their pups is beyond cute), less than a 100 are born every year of each, compared to 6000+ (not including unregistered) Westies. I like Westies, I just hope that there might be more balance amongst the breeds.

Top speed of 38mph I believe. I’m guessing it’s a brave moment when you let it off the lead. My top speed is 3.8 mph

Get a Cardigan Corgi…if you like to hoover !
Our old one moulted a “spare” dog in hair weekly.
I’ll say what I said to my boy who spent a ridiculous amount of money on a French Bull Terrier,…There are numerous dogs looking for good homes in animal refuge centres, so instead of lining someone’s pockets, ditch the Dog snobbery and give one a chance of a good life

No chance of catching a hare, alone.
Not once it’s up an running.
Got the stamina…but not the turn of pace.
Running dogs,need to run.
3wheeler, I 've got a Klein Spitz as well, walking hair shedders!
Robroy, there are 81,000 abandoned dogs in the UK every year, around 11,000 in rescue centres at any given time.
Commonrail, I know someone who has two and he rides his bike to keep up with them.
Charly says rescue dogs make the best pets . We have him 3 years past in September - put into the pound at 8 months old as his ear wouldnt sit up . Full pedigree Yorkishire terrier but no papers for him - not that it matters to us . .

I was guilty of it myself (buying an expensive full pedigree dog) in the 80s, but there was a good reason for it, I was away a lot and we lived in a remote area, so I wanted a guard dog combined with a dog that was kid friendly, so I got an Alsatian pup and it worked, visually frightening… but like a big kid it’s self when playing with (and looking after) my then 2 young kids.
A lovely natured dog that lived to about 16…amazingly.
I just think this ‘‘designer dog’’ thing with some is morally wrong when there are lovely little dogs wanting homes in rescue centres.
