AMBER ABS

I was ordered to leave the depot with an amber ABS by the depot manager who said he’d checked with head office maintenance and it was ok providing I returned after my last drop. Is this illegal ? Also, I’m not sure of procudures if ABS amber light comes on during the day. Is it immediate return to depot?

Amber abs sounds nice. I use St Tropez tropical bronzer on mine. I look like a greek god.

Depends on the age of the trailer and unit,we have new 63 plate FH500 if we use the old trailers we get the amber abs light on due to the new unit old trailer abs not being able to talk to each other.
The above is what we have been told by the garage bods (that’s my cop out lol ).

Amber is advisory and red is stop with anything.

Understand rules regarding abs light coming on during journey but can you refuse to leave depot with trailer with amber abs still displayed even after running it up to speed to see if it clears itself. ?

If you sign your defect book as ‘NIL Defects’ at the start of your shift, then you could say that the lamp has come on during the journey and you would get a delayed prohibition.

It must be fixed before being taken back out on another shift.

Well it depends if you want to refuse to take it or not. You can always probably find some spurious reason not to take anything out.

Are you worried about what an accurate amber ABS means in terms of actual road safety?

Are you worried about what an amber ABS means, even if it’s spurious, from the point of view of your licence if you’re stopped?

Are you looking to help or hinder your employer?

Not looking to hinder my employer BUT looking out for my licence !

I am interested in an answer on this one as well. I will be starting as an agency bod as soon as I get my license. I personally would not be happy taking a vehicle out with this warning on if it is a safety issue? Is it a safety issue?

It depends on a few things as said alot of trailers differ from new units if in doubt try and another lead. If it persists then loom at how old the trailer is ot could even be dirt on the sensor gap. How ever it wouldn’t bother me too much as long as it stops

Amber ABS means its not operating so should not go out on the road.

Theoretically you can get points for brake or tyre issues but unlikely it’s a common middling vehicle defect for a VOSA stop.

Generally, the compatability thing is over-used if the light’s on chances are the ABS isn’t operational.

I would give them one roll of the dice and use the ‘happened during journey’ excuse mentioned.

In fairness although often it’s a two second job to swap out lead/ knock the sensors closer to the exciter rings or give the rings a wire brush ABS defects can be trickier when they randomly occur at say 40mph on a bumpy road. In those scenarios if switching it off and back on again sorts them then they’re just par for the course.

It would be treated much less seriously than the severed yellow line you were (allegedly) telling a driver to crack on with on the other ABS thread.

When you know what you are talking about some of us may listen .
Till then shut your gob.
The man was asking a question about ABS warning lights.
If a vehicle displays an orange warning light be it a car, truck or motorbike it means that that system is disabled and is running in default mode.
Now if that is to complicated for you to understand, please let other folk with a bit of brain get a word in.

I would just run it up to 10kmh then lock up on some slick looking tarmac, with the window down, and see if it’s cycling.

Headboard green lamps, if even fitted and visible from the mirror are many and varied. In general should light and go out when braking if stays on then faulty.

Many thanks for all your comments and help.
Very much appreciated.

Headboard warning lamps are only fitted to ABS trailers, also they are an advice indicator and not a warning lamp. If not working it would attract an advisory on test or the roadside.

The important lamp is on the dashboard

all of the companies i will work for will not allow a vehicle to leave the depot with that light on but i only work for highly compliant companies. their company policies may be stricter than the law though
