grantham to glos [ about 5 miles off of jct 12 then return trip
leave 18.00 [ grantham] arrive back 1.00 [grantham ] , 7 hrs
takes me just over 3hrs to get there then the same to get back [ tried it a52,m42 then m5 , a38] and also a52,a46 ,m5 and a38 ] and it takes about the same time.
45 min break, trailer change , diesel up donington .
i think thats not bad but i was told by another driver that hed told him he reconds im tossing it off all night and should be back by 00.00 :
could you get to grantham to glous and back in 6 hrs ,i cant see it but is there a better, quicker route to the two i use or is there another way im missing that you could do it in 6 hrs
Autoroute, with speeds adjusted for HGV, is saying under 2½hrs, one way. (A52, M42, M5).
Having said that, Autoroute also says that Ketton (Stamford) to Avonmouth can be done in just over 2½hrs.
I used to do that route often, virtually always on nights and I know it took more than any 2½hrs!!!
I’d say that you’re not too far off the mark, especially if you’re doing ‘40 on the 40’s’ etc etc!!
I thnk you were just tossing it off,to get your hours in.

i agree
I take it your on min 8 hrs so why is he whittling ?
well i do agency driving and its sounds like a definate 10 hours to me.
Id say not bad timing, we often do Lincoln to Andoversford 2 and 3/4 to 3 hours one way so tell him to shut up or prove it.
was that at the speed limits?
Yes and no! LOL Id say deffinatly mostly.

yes speed limits from grantham to donnington roundabout and then limiter from donington to m5 jct 12, a46 is shorter distance wise but theres alot more single carriage ways so time wise its about the same .
even if you run from grantham to donington flat out its only about 5 mins quicker than sticking to the limits, seems alot longer but if you flying down the single carriage way to say wheatcroft roundabout with all the other traffic when you get to the roundabout youve got to wait for the cars in front to go before you can wheras if you go down at 40 when you get to the roundabout it normally clear so you can go straightaway, and that seems to happen all the way to donington ,56 is stop start wheras 40 you seem to keep going.
it normally takes
1 hr 10 mins from grantham to donington roundabout
1 hr from donington roundabout down to m5[ jct 4 a ]
50 mins from m5 [jct 4 a] down to jct 12 .
normally struggle getting out of notts [ up through clifton] then down the a453]
I did a run from Magna Park (Lutterworth) to Chadderton, Manchester easy peasy eh, just a trailer swap, no waiting! In the cab of the unit I used was a post-it note from the regular driver saying “don`t spoil it for me this run takes 9 hours” I did as requested and had no problems.
Bit off topic - We used to get compensated for using the FERRY to Anglesey
They could be going, Grantham, Melton, Leicester, M69,M6,M42,M5.
But you’d have to really be thraping it to get anywhere near 6 hrs, might manage about 6.30-6.45.
Grantham to Melton on the 607 not realy condusive to good average speed though its a bit up hill down dale and plenty of 90deg corners and pokey villages to hamper progress. Plus side is you dont see much traffic on it of any shape or size!
it takes as long as it takes if he wants to rush about leave him to it when your paid by the hour stick to the limits an bollox to em stick it in tourist mode !!
I’m going off what we do things in, and yes I do speed, but I’m not paid on hours.
We can do NEC to Grantham in about 1 hrs 40mins, and NEC to J12 M5 in about 1hrs 25mins.
But thats not allowing for any time tipping or trailer swapping.
Just read the original thread, and the answer is:
No way can this run be done legally in under 7hrs including dieseling, break and trailer swapping.

There’s a simple answer to that which shuts them up EVERY time…
“Is that legally?”
And they can’t answer because both of you know it isn’t.
