Rang a customer this afternoon regarding tomorrow; Basically I’ve got to drive our puddle jumper tipper and quote him “move some stuff” from one building site to another. I asked was it muck/sand etc and after a bit of umming and ahhing he asked “have you got a sheet and some ropes?” I rather promptly and politely told him it’s a (dropside) tipper not a flatbed and thus I don’t do general haulage especially rope and sheet.
His response was “what if it rains?” to which I replied “then it gets wet” also pointing out that perhaps a curtainsider would be a better choice.
I also asked was the stuff on pallets and was told “there SHOULD be someone to help YOU load it.” I concluded the phone call by saying aslong as there’s a forklift or digger to load it as I don’t do handball.
Boss has told me I’m paid to drive and not to “■■■■ about handballing.”
Is the title of the post a trick question?
Gotta agree with you though, sounds like a ball ache…

Give them my number I’ll send a crane Equipt pick up round there on the flip from London ,would possibly be there before you even got out of bed !
You can’t get the staff these days
Are yes why do some places think that when they hire a driver a free labourer comes with it.
I’m as work shy as the next bugger and done my fair share of handball but these days leave it to the youngsters.
I do get a sweat on if I have some stiff back doors to open though so I ain’t totally bone idle honest.
My company pay me to drive. I just drive. If it takes them longer to sort out the loading then I earn more by doing less. What’s not to like about this job?
It doesn’t have to be " either /or " you know Nathan. It’s just possible you could be both !!
Regards. John.

You sound like a Lib Dem, John.
I had the stuff carried to me in the end, I stood on the back and arranged where it went. Nothing was carried above the dropsides and made three trips last most of the day so booked it as “day hire.” Win for me win for the boss.
as sharp as ever John!
Pah. These youngsters don’t know they born. Wet behind the ears and bone idle with it. Used to hand ball bricks, milk churns, and we didn’t ponce about with heaters either…

Do all sorts mate, but I’d rather load stuff mechanically. Load was below the dropsides and some weighted down with acros so rather secure. Without straps.
B**ks to that. F em!

I always found that stacking bricks on top of milk churns was really hard. The friction co-efficient between ally churns and bricks was stupid.

I always found it safer without heaters: by hauling water out of a nearby well and throwing it over the load it would freeze into a solid block of ice. To offload we always had a bowl of hot porridge (with salt in it) to eat, and then stripped off to use our hot body to melt the ice before hand-balling it off. Kids today just don`t believe you, do they?
