Would it put you off a company if they where always recruiting ? is it a bad sign ? the likes of swains and Eddie Stobart and others always have vacancies should it ring alarm bells what’s your thoughts ?

Yes, but I’d ‘read between the lines’…
Lesson learned years ago when I first started driving. First company I drove for (plant hire), always advertised, ‘LGV driver wanted etc, etc’.
Sharp learned ‘why’! 
So since then, I always tried to search any ‘history’ about them, talk to people and not just ‘dive in’.

in a different area that I wasn’t familiar with then yes it would, locally I would have hoped the stories of good or bad would have reached me.
No not really, company I used to work for were always recruiting, my interpretation for the reason behind this is, the job was hard graft, sometimes two declers full of cages a night, I liked that kind of work most don’t. Each to their own

Don’t see Swain growing, unlike Stobart. Was loading at Unilever last week, which now looks like going back to Stobart, they lost it once let’s see if they can hold on to it this time. Must be a few hundred trailers a day. The last time it was worth 60Mn a year. Don’t know what is going in their new warehouse in Dirft South, but that is a decent sized one.

+1 the best jobs I’ve had have all been with small family run businesses
Plenty of companies advertise but have no vacancies either because its a way to get future driver contact details if a job comes up or simply they forget to take adverts down on their own web pages.
We’re constantly interviewing people, we keep them on file and when a job comes up they’re contacted. Some will leave their current jobs or might have taken new jobs so they move on to the next person
best thing is to take any job offered providing it sounds allright and find out for yourself,best way to find out as you can allways jack if no good,i usually give a job two weeks to a month,and see what the money is like,but that’s me
